Do you make a lot of mistakes while typing and you constantly have to press Backspace? Then check out the following eight ideas for reducing typing errors.

How to make fewer typing mistakes

1. Learn to touch-type correctly

If you have been using a computer for many years, chances are, you manage to avoid peeking at the keyboard to type text most of the time. However, if you have trained yourself to type incorrectly, the typing speed and accuracy may not be very fast.

Practice the technique of the blind ten-finger method using the simulators:

  • offline:, "",;
  • online: "", "".

Typing games are very fun - many participants notice a constant urge to type.

Personally, I managed to learn the blind ten-finger method back in school, when the keys on my old Dell laptop were completely worn out. I just drew a keyboard layout and typed, looking at it like a cheat sheet.

2. Buy a comfortable keyboard

When choosing a keyboard, pay attention not to appearance, but to convenience. Do not hesitate to try different models in action right in the store and choose the most convenient for you. Pay attention to aspects such as:

  • Distance between keys. It should be such that you do not accidentally press adjacent keys and at the same time that you do not have to stretch your fingers too much to the desired key.
  • Key height. Keys that are too low cause sticky and repetitive characters, while keys that are too high require excessive force to press.
  • Keyboard shape. Ergonomic keyboards provide a more comfortable hand position, but if you cannot always work on one keyboard, then it is better to use a standard rectangular one.

3. Don't get distracted

The advice is simple: to improve accuracy, you need to be more focused. Headphones, the Pomodoro technique, and regular breaks from work will help you with this.

If you are listening to music, choose tracks without lyrics. Try to work with noise. When writing lyrics, I always listen to the same set

4. Don't look at the text you type

When you see your mistakes, you get distracted and come back. This leads to new errors. Therefore, try to look less often at the text editor window. Look only at the source or close your eyes altogether if you are typing "out of your head".

Get in the habit of correcting errors not as they appear, but after completing a logical block of text. Turn off the underscore for misspelled words and use your text editor's spell-checking tools when you finish working on the text.

5. Don't overclock

If you are often wrong, chances are you are in too much of a hurry. Many simulator exercises are aimed specifically at developing typing speed. However, in the case of real texts, it is necessary to find a middle ground, since correcting errors significantly reduces the final typing speed and leads to more fatigue.

To slow down the speed, try following the rhythm: the alternation of the strikes on the keys should be at regular intervals.

6. Maintain your posture

Only the correct position of the spine provides your brain with a sufficient blood supply, and therefore, better concentration and greater efficiency. So straighten your back!

Regular (every 2-3 hours) breathing exercises for 3-5 minutes help me. Concentrating on your breathing clears your brain for a new stage of work, and deep breaths and exhalations to get rid of the stoop.

7. Watch the correct position of the hands

  • Elbows. Use the armrests, they should be flush with the keyboard.
  • Brushes. Keep them rounded - that's what pianists are taught. The brushes should not be too tense, but they should not be relaxed on the keyboard either.
  • Fingers. You should not raise them too high, and after each press you need to return to the starting position (FYVA OLDZH).

8. Do exercises for the wrists

If you have to type a lot, your hands will inevitably get tired. Exercise to help prevent tunnel syndrome and arthritis:

  • Rotate with your hands.
  • Stretch and massage your fingers and shoulder girdle.
  • Squeeze an expander or rubber ball.
  • Crumple up papers and newspapers.

Personally, I'm most often mistaken when rearranging letters in short words like "all" and the. What mistakes do you make?
