So far, the heroes are only talking, although there are many adventures ahead.
On the streaming service Disney +, the third series on the Cinematic Universe has started. Loki is dedicated to the famous god of cunning, played by Tom Hiddleston, and continues the storyline from the movie Avengers: Endgame.
It is difficult to judge the prospects of the series from one episode: the projects of Marvel at Disney + are built as a divided into parts 6-8-hour movie. Therefore, the first episode reveals the world in which Loki will exist. And it looks boring, because there is practically no action.
However, some details help to reveal the cinematic universe itself and hint at unusual further adventures.
Time jumps and the multiverse
In Avengers: Endgame, the main characters travel back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones. There, the characters encountered an old version of Loki from 2012, who was later sent to a prison in Asgard in the main timeline. But due to the intervention of the Avengers, he manages to escape, taking the Tesseract with him.
Loki moves to Mongolia, where he is immediately arrested by agents of TVA, an organization that corrects timeline violations. Since the god of cunning has distorted his timeline, he must be eliminated. But agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) intervenes and catches the most dangerous criminals in time. He plans to involve the god of cunning in investigating an important case, but first he tries to find out what Loki himself wants.
Fans have been waiting for a multiverse from Marvel for a very long time. But up to this point, they were only made fun of. For example, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio lied that he came from another world. And now they are filming the second part of "Doctor Strange" with the subtitle "The Multiverse of Madness."
"Loki" literally in the first minutes explains the idea of other worlds and the concept of time travel, which was shown in "Final". Although completely logical answers are still not worth waiting for. Why some events can be changed and others cannot be explained no better than in Doctor Who. In short: it's just necessary for the plot.
But it should be borne in mind that the first episode only provides exposure. The audience, together with the hero, are introduced to the rules of TVA and the world in general, where time travel is possible. That is, for most of the timing, the characters simply talk, recalling the past events of the MCU. By the way, some of the references here are not straightforward, as in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but ironic. The moment with the Infinity Stones is sure to make fans laugh, as it is a great way to show how values can change.
So far, we can only guess about further events. It seems that from the second episode, Loki will begin to travel in time in search of a mysterious criminal and involuntarily intervene in various historical events. Critics who have been shown more are promising adventures in the spirit of Rick and Morty and Doctor Who. So there must be a lot of humor and drive.
New version of the character
It is important to understand that Loki in the series is different from the character of the latest films of the cinematic universe. This is the version of the hero from 2012: he has not yet gone the path of correction, has not lost his parents and has not sacrificed himself, protecting his comrades. This is the same god of cunning that appeared in the first "Thor" and "The Avengers". Sneaky and dreaming of taking over the world.
The rollback of events into the past frees the hands of the authors. In fact, the viewer knows very little about the character of this Loki. The god of cunning is only hastily introduced to his future history. But in other circumstances, it can develop in a completely different way.
And this image also allows you to show Loki from a comical side. In later Marvel films, he has already morphed into an almost tragic character. In the meantime, the god of cunning is not even an antihero, but a real villain who has just nearly destroyed the Earth. Therefore, in TVA, bureaucrats scoff at him in every possible way, and God himself often looks ridiculous.
Tom Hiddleston is finally being allowed to unleash his talent. Already in the first episode, he manages to show the changes in the hero. Probably, the whole further season will be built on the actor's charisma.
For many fans, this will surely be a real treat. Indeed, in full-length films, Loki has always remained a function for revealing other characters. This is even ironically mentioned in the series. Now the hero gets the solo exit he deserved for a long time.
Of course, in the next episodes, this may still change. Previous joint projects between Marvel and Disney + Wanda / Vision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier were highly praised at the start and scolded towards the end.
Loki's setting looks intriguing. The show just needs to pick up the pace and give Hiddleston more space. The head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, claims Loki Will Have ‘More Impact On The MCU Than Any Show So Far,’ Says Kevin Feige - Exclusive Image / Empire, that this project is more connected with the development of the cinema universe. Therefore, all fans will definitely have to follow the character's adventures.
