Rasputin and the Nazis built many devices on the island off the coast of Scotland and tried to open a portal to summon the Ogdra Jahad - dragons who want to destroy everything. However, their plans were thwarted by the American army. The dragons did not get to Earth, but after the ritual, a small creature with red skin, similar to a demon, was found at this place.

He was taken and raised as his son by the American paranormal researcher Trevor Bruttenholm (later simply Trevor Broome). He also gave the creature the name Hellboy ("boy from hell"). When the hero grew up, he went to work in the secret "Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense" (B. P. R. D.). And together with other unusual characters, he began to fight various paranormal threats: creatures from other worlds, demons, magicians and other evil spirits.

In 2004, director Guillermo del Toro released the first film about Hellboy. Its plot is largely a retelling of the Seed of Destruction arc, although there are several references to later comics. Hellboy was played by Ron Perlman, Abe is the director's favorite Doug Jones (before that he had already appeared with del Toro in Pan's Labyrinth, and later starred in the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water).
