How to choose an interior style if you like everything

Most interior designers are faced with the fact that their new client does not know what he wants and what he likes. But it should definitely turn out beautifully, comfortable and functional. And this is quite normal. Let's try to figure out how to find your own style of interior, the atmosphere in which you will live with pleasure.

Watching TV programs, flipping through magazines

TV programs, online or print magazines are a good help in choosing. They give a visual representation of the interiors, thanks to them you can immediately see examples and mark the ones you like.

When watching programs, you see the interior in volume, which creates the effect of presence. You can feel with your own eyes the height of the ceilings, the heap of furniture or the illumination of the room. Don't forget to pay attention to small details, such as free-standing furniture or decor, a particular color or finish. Even one subject can set the mood.

Shows and magazines are updated frequently, talk about fashion trends, which will help keep up with the times.

Resist the temptation to buy all the furniture in one collection. It looks perfect only in gloss, but in real life such furniture will be boring and tasteless.

Choose furniture that is varied, but not arguing with each other either in decoration or in style. An exception may be individual items, for example, a Chinese vase in an English interior or a crystal chandelier in a brutal loft.

Everyday life, geometry, decoration

Decide on what you need from the technical equipment. Perhaps you will come to the conclusion that the high-tech direction is what you are striving for: the maximum of smart and useful, that is, modern smart chips integrated into the interior.

Beyond the essentials, don't forget what you generally enjoy. Heed the call of forms: straight and clear lines lead to minimalism, smooth curves tend to the classics, streamlined forms pour into futurism.

And in order to understand what suits you from the finishing materials, call on all your five senses to help. Breathe in the scent of wood - use parquet and eco-finishes. Feel the breeze of the sea and the rays of the sun - paint the walls in warm, cheerful colors. Feel the power of metal and see through the transparency of glass - plunge into the world of an industrial loft. Touch the cracks of antique items - as if hints of Provence and retro were taken from a chest with shabby leather. Close your eyes, imagine, remember what you like.

Do not abandon strict geometry for reasons that corners are dangerous for children, and surfaces that are tactile to you because of the sharp claws of pets.

Hard round surfaces can be hit just as hard (and there are many ways to minimize these risks). And it is impossible to avoid damage to the finish from time to time, unscrupulous neighbors on top or cracks when the house shrinks.

Weather outside, colors inside

Think of Scandinavian interiors (like IKEA design). In Scandinavia, most of the time it is cool, damp, cloudy. The weather is echoed by the interiors - light or dark, but discreet, with cold shades of white, gray, blue. Monotony is diluted with accents. A yellow chair among the same-faced furniture neighbors, cheerful intricate prints among woolen blankets and rugs, natural wood for comfort, a lot of greenery as a juicy note.

Spain, Mexico are famous for their explosive temperament, variegated colors have been woven into their lives since ancient times. Their traditional interiors look the same. Residents of these countries do not get tired of bright fabrics, furniture and decor.

In the Mediterranean, it would seem, there is so much sun that you want to go into the cool shade of your home. But no, its inhabitants also throw a lot of light and cheerful colors into the house - yellow, terracotta. If the walls look white in the background, then the traditional attachment to this or that color, for example, Greek blue, certainly pops up.

Brainstorm “I like” on your favorite colors, accents, mood.

Colors can freshen up an interior or degrade it if not chosen correctly.

In order not to be mistaken, choose two main colors, it is advisable to make a color of at least A5. Attach different colors to each other and make sure they match. Match them with neutral shades with a slight difference in tone - this will be the perfect backdrop for maintaining and highlighting the two selected primary colors.

We look at the world around us and listen to ourselves

Traveling is one of the best ways to get new experiences. To search for your interior, the route can include not only sights and landscapes. Don't forget to look for details in local interiors, be sure to feel your condition even in a hotel.

A person cannot bring everything he wants to his house, and then get rid of it if it is unnecessary or irritated. Sometimes such mistakes can be avoided precisely in acquaintance with temporary interiors. Or, conversely, make sure even more of personal affection and comfort.

By traveling and staying in hotels, you can understand what you like and where you are comfortable.

In order not to get confused and draw the right conclusions, understand whether the ceiling fan really saves you from the heat, whether the carpet is pleasant for the legs, whether the sofa is comfortable instead of an armchair, whether the striped print began to irritate on the second day, whether you want to spend your evenings at the artificial fireplace, whether the Jacuzzi justifies your "want and period."

If the history of your country or national traditions is deeply embedded in you, you can safely use them. But don't turn your home into a museum or a bad taste kit. In an apartment with ceilings of 2.5 meters, columns in the Empire style or baroque stucco will look stifling, and in concrete architecture a magnificent oriental decoration will look ridiculous. In this case, it is better to make most of the interior neutral and dilute it with your favorite accents.

We consult with the designer

If you still have not come to a certain conclusion, you still like everything, or you simply have no time to do it - tell the designer about your wishes, concerns, needs. A professional will be able to comb them, arrange them on the shelves, let life and individuality into your interior. That is why at the first stage, instead of filling out template questionnaires, you should personally meet with the designer, relax and discuss your future interior.

Don't be surprised that a designer digs deep into your personality, your family: every detail can make you happier. Don't stop dreaming and share it with the designer, don't be shy about your emotions. A professional will be able to extract the necessary information even from your favorite books, films, music.

In his work, the designer turns into a multifaceted person. It combines a psychologist, a consultant, a friend, a stylist, a lawyer, a mentor, not forgetting the main thing - to be human, to be able to listen and understand you.

Don't blindly go to a designer.

Choosing a specialist is a painstaking preparation for starting work on a design. Select a few professionals based on their portfolios, reviews, education, approach to work, and be sure to discuss all your questions when you meet. You should feel like this is your person, walking in the same direction as your dreams.
