It is customary to learn English from complex textbooks, long word lists and expensive courses. But there are also free resources, which I will tell you about. Just select at least one of them, and learning English will become much easier.

1. Platforms - structure your learning

The two most popular and material-rich resources are English Med and English Health Train. On the first one you will find free lessons, texts, exercises, dialogues and videos with vocabulary analysis. And the second is a curriculum to help you improve your communication skills in English with colleagues, patients and their families.

2. Podcasts - Improve Your Listening

The most famous medical podcast is, of course, the Air Force's Health Check. It is about everything new and interesting in medicine. Its huge plus is that the text is attached to the audio so that you can make out every word.

You can find more interesting clinical cases at Bedside Rounds. And if you, like me, are interested in non-standard career paths and stories about doctors writing books, moving science and business forward, or building hospitals in Africa, then be sure to listen to Docs Outside The Box.

3. Series - learn to understand the context

This is a great way to learn modern medical English, which will only appear in textbooks in 10 years from now. Play any of these TV shows and don't worry about the language: your medical experience will help you grasp the core meaning, which is a more valuable skill. After all, you will not pause your interlocutor and google a word in your life.

4. Blogs of doctors - fall in love with medicine again

Fill your feed with medicine blogs.

Foreign blogs and vlogs

  • Violin MD is a Canadian resident who is constantly on duty at night.
  • Doctor Mike is the most modern media doctor, who, by the way, was born in Russia.
  • The Medical Futurist is a physician and scientist with whom you can look into the future of medicine.
  • Deena BSN is a nurse who gives many interesting details about medical work in the United States.
  • Morgan Heinzelmann is a neurologist who talks about his life and work.

Russian blogs

Many subtleties of medical English can be found on my blog, and be sure to pay attention to the following doctors:

  • Evgenia Kharchenko is an oncologist, blogging about medicine, helping doctors build careers and learn medical English.
  • Nata Sharashenidze is a physician in the United States and has been teaching medical English since 2009.

Many doctors and teachers create their online medical English courses and marathons - you can easily find them on Instagram and VK by the phrase "Medical English".

Find your favorite blog or channel that you don't want to miss the news, and you will gradually begin to memorize English-language medical terms.

5. Books about doctors - improve your reading speed

Every year the number of bestsellers about doctors and from doctors only grows, and the language is somewhat simplified. Therefore, do not wait until you "learn" English, but now read one of these books at least a page a day. The ability to read quickly will also come in handy for studying scientific articles.

6. Online Courses - Study at the world's leading universities

Find a course in your specialty on Coursera, edX or FutureLearn and you'll be surprised how much you already understand English and deepen your knowledge of your specialty.

If you just need medical English, then try English for Healthcare by King's College London for the intermediate level or Clinical Terminology for International and U. S. Students by University of Pittsburgh for advanced language learners to work with.
