Where to get energy in a state of stress
Where to get energy in a state of stress

It is better not to remind some of us about work-life balance: to cope with the shaft of work tasks that drive us into depression with their number and tight deadlines. Emergency mode may not be a way of life for long. Sooner or later, constant stress depletes all energy reserves. They need to be replenished, and continuously, so as not to fail, not to break down and, in general, every day to feel a rise in strength, not a decline.

Making lists, using task managers - all this helps when you need to get things in order here and now. But for long-term results, a different approach is required. Try to follow a few proven principles. Thanks to them, everyday stress will cease to take away all your strength.

Not planning things, but establishing a daily routine

Anyone who studied ballet in childhood, went to an art circle or studied at a music school knows firsthand what regular practice is. According to the schedule, you have to repeat not only the same steps, the same melodies, but the process itself. Namely, exercise.

It is much easier to do this at a fixed time than to decide anew every day what time to work out this time. Otherwise, much more time will be spent on daily planning than on the actual work on certain tasks. So make sure you have a schedule in adulthood as well. To almost always know with 99% accuracy what your daily routine will be like today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

The less uncertainty, the less time wasted.

True, unforeseen circumstances - that same remaining 1% - should still be allowed into your life. Sometimes it's weekends and holidays that serve as a reason for joy (and thus relieve stress). Sometimes - working late and the sudden appearance of additional tasks. Either way, it adds a bit of variety to the daily routine.

By the way, a strict schedule also helps you understand when your stress levels are on the rise. It is during such periods that previously unplanned affairs violate the usual way of life. Thanks to this, it will be easier to identify "hot spots" and deal with them in order to quickly return everything to its place.

Prioritize

To shoulder more things on your shoulders, convincing yourself that it is quite possible to do everything, is ambitious, but naive.

Everyone has their own priorities in life, and they need to be put at the forefront, to adjust their daily life to them.

When a career is a priority, it means that many other aspects should be subordinated to it.

To be successful at work, many do not just spend the prescribed 8 hours in the office, or even more. Along with this time, someone vitally needs 8 hours of sleep: they cannot get enough sleep, otherwise they will not have the strength to work at all. Others require regular exercise in the morning: training energizes, after which it is easier to work. This means that these habits should be a priority. They need to be taken into account first of all when making up your schedule.

When romance or family is a priority, respectively, everyday habits should work for just that. Then there will be no stress from the fact that an important part of life for one reason or another is left without proper attention.

Know the limits

Gretchen Rubin divides people into two types in Project Happiness. There are “maximizers” who, when making a decision, will not calm down until they have considered all possible options and choose the most suitable one among them. And there are people of a completely different kind. The first option that meets their criteria is enough for them.

Sometimes even perfectionists need to suppress their “maximizer” essence and not overwork themselves. Especially during periods when stress levels are off the charts. As you disrupt your daily routine, when the pressure is at its peak and the schedule is bursting at the seams, ask yourself: What would be enough to do to keep life going as it should without being overwhelmed?

Complete those tasks that are in priority. Please yourself with a workout or a short walk so that the rush after them no longer seems like the end of the world. Isolate yourself from irritants. For example, don't check your mail before bed.

Those who are used to squeezing the maximum out of themselves need to be able to stop: do enough, but no more.

Thanks to this, energy, and motivation, and readiness to resolve new situations - foreseen and not so, will be preserved.
