The DuckDuckGo extension and app block ad networks on the page and show how privacy affects a particular site.
DuckDuckGo is known primarily as the developer of the search engine of the same name. The main feature of the engine is complete privacy: it does not use user data to select search results. The company recently released a mobile app and browser extension that further protect your privacy.
The functionality of the application and the extension is similar: both block the operation of ad networks on websites. This prevents resources from showing you annoying ads and tracking your online activities.
DuckDuckGo assigns a rating to each site based on information about whether the connection to the resource is secured, how many ad networks the site is running, and whether it uses unknown user tracking techniques. But the main thing is that the product automatically eliminates most of the problems and thus almost always increases the site's ranking.
For example, in the case of Wikipedia, DuckDuckGo managed to block the advertising networks of Yandex and Google and increase the rating from C to B. And when logging into Facebook, not only a low D rating was found without the possibility of an increase, but also that the social network is following you even on other sites and uses your data for different purposes.
Like traditional ad blockers like AdBlock, DuckDuckGo lets you add sites to exceptions. It also gives you a summary of all the ad networks you've come across. Moreover, the company's search engine is built into the product, and the mobile application is generally a browser like Firefox Focus.
The new app is available for free on iOS and Android. The extension can be installed in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. In the latter case, you need to go to the search engine site and click on the blue Add DuckDuckGo to Safari button in the upper right corner.
