Vivo V17: how to shoot a beautiful smartphone with a quad camera

Cute but slippery

The black box Vivo V17 contains a complete set: a phone, a USB to USB Type-C cable, an 18 W fast charging adapter, a clip for a SIM card tray and headphones. The gadget also comes with a silicone case. Once you put it on, it will not be so easy to pull it off the case. But you shouldn't neglect it anyway.

The V17 is available in two variations: "Cloudy Azure" in pastel light shades and "Mist Blue", the body of which shimmers from deep purple to deep indigo. The back panel is fantastically soiled, and one awkward touch with your finger is enough to smudge all the beauty. But the cover is necessary not only to protect the smartphone from dirty hands: at first glance, the case, which is reliable at first glance, is made not of glass, but of polymer - not too strong.

It may seem that the V17 is the twin of the Vivo V17 Neo, but it is not. The main feature of the new model is four cameras, made up by a diamond. The company writes that when creating this smartphone, it was inspired by royal palaces - if you find such a quadrangular palace somewhere, beacon. In general, it looks pretty, pompous and not too functional: yes, we love beautiful things, but we also love it when something more is hidden behind the beauty.

The cameras are covered with a single protective glass, which makes it easy to wipe them all at once.

The smartphone received a bright Super AMOLED display, an inconspicuous teardrop-shaped cutout for the front and an impressive "chin". A fingerprint scanner (which works great, by the way) is built into the screen. The SIM card tray is located on the left, and on the right, according to the standard, are the power and volume buttons. Below is a connector for USB Type ‑ C, on top - for headphones. The gadget has no protection against water and dust, and must be handled very carefully.

The phone fits well in the hand, but without a cover it strives to jump out of it. So hold on tight!

Bright but not sonorous

Vivo V17 received a wide display with a diagonal of 6.3 inches. The smartphone has high-quality color rendition and a good margin of brightness - at maximum mode, even eyes begin to hurt.

In the settings, you can reduce screen flickering at low brightness, and make colors warmer or colder.

The model supports the Always On Display function, in which the battery charge, time and date are visible on the locked screen. A handy detail: the V17's settings panel does not slide out from the top, but from the bottom - what you need with a large display, because you can reach everything you need with one finger.

The phone has one rather weak speaker, so listening to music from it is not so comfortable. Plug in headphones or connect via Bluetooth.

Crisp, but not at night

The camera interface is quite clear: the buttons "Portrait", "Take a picture", "Video" and "Time Lapse". In the "More" section, there are hidden non-obvious and not necessary for everyone Live photo, slow-motion shooting, panorama and professional mode with manual settings. Each mode has a ton of options.

The main camera has a resolution of 48 megapixels, but by default the phone shoots at 12 megapixels. There is also an 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a camera for macro mode. The fourth camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels is needed only as a sensor for measuring the depth of the image.

During the day, the smartphone shoots great: you can clearly see every leaf of wood and pattern on the brickwork, even without turning on the 48 megapixel mode. The possibilities of the latter, by the way, are limited: for example, it will not work to bring the object closer.

However, the approach came out powerful, but not too clear.

But in macro mode, the photos are excellent. “I remember all your cracks” is about V17 macro photography.

Shooting at night, in our opinion, is a complete failure: the phone is dull, it tries to find an object for a very long time, and in the end it gives out a not very clear image. Compared to daytime photography, it's a complete disappointment.

The front camera is declared to be very powerful - 32 megapixels! Do not forget to turn off beautification if you want to know your reflection. Despite the high resolution, selfies are very ordinary: we did not notice anything impressive.

During video shooting, the smartphone quickly focuses. There is no 4K shooting. The stabilization is weak, so if your hands are shaking, everyone will know about it.

Powerful but not overly powerful

The smartphone has an eight-core Snapdragon 665 processor. It will be enough for all daily tasks, but do not expect grandiose feats. During games and taking photos, the phone did not freeze - in general, we were satisfied.

The model received a 4,500 mAh battery, which is about 15 hours of continuous video viewing and 34 hours of talk time. The V17 supports fast charging and is powered by about half in 30 minutes.

The model is available in only one modification - with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. You can put a 256 GB card into the microSD slot, but then you have to give up one of the SIM cards.

For dessert, good news: the phone has NFC.

What is the bottom line

For 22,990 rubles, we get a cool phone with small buts. The Vivo V17 is strikingly beautiful, but it slips out of your hands. It has a bright display but mediocre sound. The quad camera shoots just great, but only during the day. And the smartphone has a decent fingerprint scanner, there is NFC and fast charging. And here already without any pretensions.

In our opinion, the pros far outweigh the cons: this is a high-quality smartphone for lovers of mobile photography and unusual design. Should I take it? Quite.
