Vivo X50 Pro arrived in Russia - the world's first smartphone with a camera stabilized by a gimbal. This approach reduces shaking and significantly improves the quality of photography in low light conditions. But that's in theory. To understand how things are in practice, we walked with a smartphone through Moscow at night. Here's our first impressions of the Vivo X50 Pro and its ambitious camera.

Design

Give Vivo its due - they were able to make a recognizable smartphone. The point is in an unusual block of cameras with a huge main module. It seems that the designers did their best to emphasize the main feature of the X50 Pro.

The rear glass is frosted, so it does not collect prints. The device is available in a single color, which Vivo marketers call “steel gray”. It looks unusual and at the same time strict.

On the front side, we are greeted by a curved screen with minimal bezels and a round hole for the front camera. An optical fingerprint scanner is located under the display, it works quickly and accurately.

The smartphone fits comfortably in the palm of your hand due to the smooth body shape. At the same time, it is very slippery, so the presence of a silicone case in the kit is dictated by necessity. Also in the box you will find a charging cable, adapter and headphones with a USB-C adapter.

Screen

Vivo X50 Pro has a 6, 56 ‑ inch OLED ‑ display with Full HD + resolution. The pixel density is 398 PPI - not a record value, but enough so that the pixel structure is not striking. The small print is devoid of the looseness that can be seen on the screens of some competitors.

Also, the matrix boasts a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a sensor polling rate of 180 Hz. The animations are very fluid and the touch response is accurate.

The picture itself is contrasting and saturated. The maximum screen brightness is 1300 nits, which allows for full HDR10 +. In addition, full coverage of the DCI ‑ P3 color space is declared, the smartphone is perfect for photo processing.

Sound and vibration

Vivo X50 Pro is equipped with a single multimedia speaker at the bottom. The sound is loud and clear, but the bass and volume are lacking. It is strange that the engineers did not pair the spoken speaker with the main one to provide stereo sound. This scheme is successfully used in many smartphones.

But the bundled headphones are very decent. They are made in the form factor of "plugs", well block external noise and give out a powerful rolling bass. At the same time, the rest of the frequencies are also in order. The headset is equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack and connects via a USB-C adapter. A strange decision, considering that there is no audio jack in the device.

The vibration is powerful and clear, but in this regard, the novelty is inferior to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or Xiaomi Mi 10, and it is very far from the iPhone with Taptic Engine.

Cameras

Vivo X50 Pro was the first smartphone on the market with gimbal stabilization. The main camera is rotatable thanks to built-in hinges. The compensation angle is 300% greater than that of cameras with traditional OIS.

The standard module received a 1/2 '' Sony IMX 598 sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels, as well as a lens with an aperture of f / 1, 6. It is complemented by an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 13-megapixel portrait lens with a focal length of 50 mm and 8 -Megapixel periscope with 5x zoom. Front camera resolution is 32 megapixels.

With a lack of lighting, the smartphone takes decent shots, but the potential of the stabilizer is not used 100% - the auto mode sets the shutter speed no longer than 1/17 of a second. More primitive stabilization systems can cope with such values.

At the same time, the built-in controller regulates the current and voltage so that the battery does not heat up.

Subtotals

Vivo X50 Pro is a unique device, if only because of its camera. True, the cost of 65 thousand rubles can scare away potential buyers. The final verdict can be made after a couple of weeks of testing, when all the advantages and problems of the novelty appear.

In the meantime, we just note that the OPPO Reno3 Pro, similar in characteristics, will cost 15 thousand less, and for a similar price you can take the Huawei P40 Pro with an uncompromising camera. So the Vivo X50 Pro will not be easy - we hope that the innovative stabilization will pay off.
