The life hacker has found answers to the most frequent questions that passengers have.

What are you entitled to on the train and what are you not?
What are you entitled to on the train and what are you not?

Do I need to print an e-ticket?

Not necessary. During electronic check-in, you can show the boarding pass on paper or in electronic form to the conductor - these are equivalent media. Nobody has the right to demand a printout from you.

Do you really need to show your passport?

Documents are required. When boarding the train, you must show the conductor the document on the basis of which you issued the ticket. It can be:

  • passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation;
  • international passport;
  • birth certificate (for children under 14);
  • military card of a conscript;
  • foreign identity document.

If the ticket is concessional, you will also have to show papers that confirm the right to a discount.

What to do if there are errors in the ticket?

Do not panic. In case of an error in specifying personal data, you will still be allowed on the train, if no more than one letter in the surname and no more than one digit in the ID number are confused. Otherwise, the ticket will have to be reissued.

Can I enter any carriage?

According to the rules, when boarding, you need to look for your carriage. But at an intermediate station, you can go to any one, and then get to yours.

Some restrictions! You can take as much luggage as you like

A common misconception. The amount of luggage that can be carried on the train is limited. Each passenger can take carry-on baggage weighing no more than 36 kg, for SV - 50 kg. The size of the suitcase by the sum of three dimensions should not exceed 180 centimeters. In addition, you can carry additional baggage weighing up to 50 kg for a fee.

And what about the animals?

Small animals and birds can be transported if you buy a ticket in a specially designated compartment. For this you will have to pay an additional 25% of the ticket price for an adult passenger. Large dogs are transported in muzzles, with a leash and only in a separate compartment with full payment of all seats.

A guide dog is allowed in any carriage at no additional charge. She must be muzzled and on a leash and at the feet of the passenger she is accompanying. Be prepared to present a document confirming that the animal has undergone special training.

Pets can also be checked in luggage, but Russian Railways is not responsible for their health on the way.

Luggage space under the shelves is taken. How to be?

The right to occupy the space under the lower shelf is given to the passenger who bought a ticket for this shelf. A person from the top shelf can only ask to leave some space for him - and put up with a refusal if his neighbor is against it.

The passenger from the bottom shelf does not allow me to sit on it. What to do?

Passenger transportation rules prohibit travel in foreign places. This means that the passenger from the lower shelf is not at all obliged to give you a seat next to him and, at the first call, to free up space at the table. If you cannot agree, go to the guide. He, too, has no right to drive your intractable neighbor from the shelf. But the guide will find a place where you can eat.

By the way, if there are free seats on the train, you can pay extra and get a shelf in a car of a higher category. If there was an error and two tickets were sold to your seat, you are obliged to find an alternative - no additional payment in a car of a higher class or with a refund of the difference and with your consent, if the car is worse.

The conductor swears that I took the mattress. I have the right?

A passenger can use a mattress, pillow or blanket only if he has been provided with bed linen. So if you wanted to save money, it won't work. But at the same time, for an additional fee, you can change the linen on the trip.

By the way, the guide brings the kit to your shelf. His job description states that he is obliged to make beds for disabled, sick, elderly passengers and with children, so if you belong to one of these categories, do not hesitate to ask.

The conductor must also remove the bed linen and only after the passenger leaves. In exceptional cases, he can do this 30 minutes before arriving at the station. You are not obliged to run around with your underwear, but no one forbids you to help the guide.

No smoking. At least you can drink alcohol?

Indeed, smoking on long-distance trains is prohibited. Directly absolutely impossible: neither in vestibules, nor in toilets. Electronic cigarettes are more complicated. The media say this is prohibited by an internal Federal Passenger Company regulation. In any case, on the train you will be asked not to do this.

As for alcohol, there is no direct ban on drinking it on trains. But if police officers catch you with a bottle, they will bring you to administrative responsibility for drinking alcohol in a public place. If you decide to have a drink before boarding, the conductor can call the head of the train, who will decide whether to let you in or not. And the rowdy will be pacified by the police.

Keep in mind that the conductor is obliged to contact the head of the train every time the police or an ambulance need to be called, so sometimes it makes sense to go directly to him.

And what to do all night? Listen to music?

No noise is allowed on long-distance trains at night. The period from 11 pm to 6 pm is calculated for sleep. If someone is disturbing your peace, ask the guide to influence the situation. If someone talks loudly or laughs during the day, you will have to negotiate yourself.

And the radio bothers me during the day. It's also very cold

In theory, you could ask the conductor to turn off the radio or air conditioner. But he has clear instructions on what temperature should be in the car. In summer, for air-conditioned carriages, it is about 24 degrees. So, you may simply be advised to dress warmly.

So what is the use of a conductor?

He has many responsibilities. For example, train passengers must be provided with chilled boiled water free of charge. If there is nowhere to collect it, it means that drinking water is provided in bottles. There should always be hot water in titanium. The guide is aware of all this, so if you are thirsty, ask him.

There is a first-aid kit in his compartment, and the conductor himself must provide primary care: he has undergone appropriate training. If necessary, doctors will wait at the next station. You can also get a sewing kit and a glass from the guide - even if you don't buy tea.

You can also ask for half an hour to warn that the train is approaching your station. This is the responsibility of the guide. And if you have not figured out what to do on the road, ask him for board games: chess, checkers or dominoes.

Should he clean too?

Yes. And there are specific legal requirements that determine that the conductor must:

  • do wet cleaning at least twice a day;
  • clean toilets at least four times a day;
  • vacuum carpet runners at least twice a day.

The toilets must contain paper and soap.
