How to make a coffee table from a basket
What do you need
- Round bottom metal basket;
- pliers - optional;
- a round piece of wood (slightly wider than the bottom of the basket);
- grinding tool - optional;
- polyurethane spray varnish - optional;
- metal staples;
- self-tapping screws;
- drill.
How to do
If the basket has handles, remove them with pliers.
The authors of this master class use an unnecessary cutting board. If you've also picked up an old piece of wood that doesn't look very nice, get it ready. Sand the entire surface first.
Then coat it with a thin coat of varnish to add shine. Dry completely.
Place the basket upside down on a piece of wood.
Place the staples in a circle at the same distance from each other.
Secure the staples with self-tapping screws with a drill.
Place the table upright, with the wood top facing up.
What other options are there
The basket can be placed upside down and a large tray can be used as a table top. You can also take a wicker basket or paint the table a different color.
How to make a coffee table from wooden pallets
What do you need
- 2 wooden pallets (also called pallets);
- grinding tool;
- wide brush;
- wood stain;
- white or other paint;
- glue for wood;
- clamps;
- door hinges;
- self-tapping screws;
- drill;
- 4 furniture wheels.
How to do
First, carefully sand the surface of both pallets. Then go over them with stain. The very bottom does not need to be lubricated.
When the tree is dry, paint it white or another color. Let dry completely. Do not paint the unstained planks of both pallets.
Turn one pallet over and grease the unpainted bottoms with glue.
Glue the second pallet on top, attaching it also with unpainted parts.
Secure the wood with clamps while the glue dries.
For beauty, door hinges can be screwed on at the junction of two pallets. They also need to be covered with paint.
Use a drill to attach the wheels to the edges of the table.
Optionally, sandpaper the wood to give it a vintage look.
What other options are there
A very detailed master class on making another table from pallets:
This piece of furniture has a solid top and an additional shelf on the bottom:
And a simple but very unusual option with a glass top:
How to make a coffee table from wooden boxes
What do you need
- 4 wooden boxes;
- plywood;
- felt-tip pen;
- a saw or other tool for cutting wood;
- turquoise or other paint;
- paint roller;
- grinding tool;
- self-tapping screws;
- drill;
- 4 furniture wheels.
How to do
Place the boxes sideways on plywood in two rows so that they touch each other. Trace the outline of the future table on the plywood.
Saw off the excess plywood.
Cover the plywood completely with paint.
Place the boxes on their sides in two rows with their bottoms facing each other.
Sand the surface of the wood to make it smoother. Paint the boxes turquoise or another color. The authors of the master class gave the table an additional ombre effect. All the details are in the video below.
When all the parts are dry, rearrange the boxes on plywood and secure with self-tapping screws.
Attach the furniture wheels to the plywood.
Place the table on its wheels.
What other options are there
If you arrange the same four drawers differently, you get a completely different table:
This soft-sided table is also made of drawers. The top piece is removable, so there is additional storage space inside.

How to make a coffee table from boards
What do you need
- 2 short boards of the same length (the table will look more original if you take thick ones with uneven edges);
- grinding tool;
- 2 small boards;
- drill;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood stain or varnish for wood;
- wide brush;
- 4 furniture legs for the table;
- 4 attachments for furniture legs.
How to do
Place the main boards next to each other as shown in the photo. Sand the surface of the wood.
At the top, closer to the edges, place the smaller boards vertically.
Drill three holes each, positioning them as the vertices of a triangle, in four places on the small planks. Do not drill through the main planks. There should be 12 holes in total. See the video below for details.
Connect the boards with self-tapping screws first in one place.
Then connect the boards in other places by screwing a self-tapping screw into each hole.
Cover the entire part with wood stain or varnish. Let the countertop dry completely.
Place the legs on small planks.
Screw on each leg.
Place the tips on their tips. Place the table upright.
