Deadlines push us to do more and turn pipe dreams into achievable goals.
1. We are useless without deadlines
Last week I had a day without meetings or phone calls - I thought I would spend it on my blog. But instead, I watched YouTube videos, stuck to Facebook and read something on the internet. And all because I did not set myself a specific deadline for completing the task.
With deadlines, I blog twice as much.
Putting things aside for an abstract future is simply wasting time. You need restrictions, otherwise you will never realize your plans.
2. Deadlines can be set independently, and it can be very effective
Saturday is my blog post day. I try to write as much as possible, and it's damn hard. The deadline for which everything should be ready is 5:00 pm, because at 6:00 pm the girl and I are going to dinner and she will be very angry if I am late.
This is a very fortunate coincidence. At the end of a tough day, a romantic dinner not only reminds me when to stop, but it also rewards me for the work I've done. In the evening I understand that I have not worked in vain, and I am idle.
If you don't like meeting other people's deadlines, assign yours. Add to the schedule not only what needs to be done, but also the reward. Also, come up with a punishment for failing the deadline, which is what an angry and resentful girl is to me.
3. Deadlines remind you that time is limited
To be effective, you need to learn not to lose concentration, regardless of what time it is and what the weather is outside the window.
The best time to do business is always now.
The next time you say to yourself, “I’d better do it later,” be suspicious of your words. If the deadline is not defined, it seems that tasks can be postponed almost indefinitely. But this is an illusion: digital entertainment will gobble up your day off faster than you finish your coffee.
4. Deadlines transform laziness into diligence
Our brains are afraid of discomfort and pushes us to choose rest over work. It is natural for him to resist the unpleasant part of our work, which is why we so often get lazy and procrastinate.
Deadlines help tune the brain to be productive. It's simple: the sooner we get the job done, the sooner we will get a well-deserved rest. Here's a clever trick.
5. Deadlines make the impossible possible
I love deadlines because after the work is done, they become simple nicks - marks of the passed path.
Sometimes we are told that we dream of the impossible and our chances of success are negligible. But when you see several closed tasks, you will realize that you have become a little closer to the goal.
I never thought that I would have the time, creativity, enough knowledge and interesting stories to become a blogger. It seemed impossible. But specific deadlines and new habits gave me the opportunity to open and grow my blog.
Deadlines help you see your goal more clearly and resist laziness. Just learn to work with them.
