When to change your passport

By law, all citizens of the Russian Federation over 14 years old are required to have a passport.

The passport is subject to exchange if:

  2. You are 45 years old.
  3. You have changed your last name, first name, patronymic, date and place of birth.
  4. You have changed your appearance or gender.

Then you need to verify your identity. There are three options here: you can contact the service center, receive an identity verification code by mail, or use an enhanced qualified electronic signature.

A very simple option is to register with the help of service center specialists. In this case, a verified account will be created immediately.

If you already have a confirmed account on public services, go to the directory and select a citizen of the Russian Federation for a reason that is relevant to you.

How long does the exchange process take?

According to the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation "On Approval of the Regulations on the Passport of a Citizen of the Russian Federation, a Sample Form and Description of a Passport of a Citizen of the Russian Federation", the period for issuing a passport is 10 days if it is replaced at the place of residence.

If you want to replace your passport outside your place of residence or if the lost document was issued by another territorial division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the period is increased to 30 days. Please note that this period is counted from the day the documents are accepted by the department of the UVM of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

How to get a temporary ID

If you are not attracted by the prospect to remain without documents for a certain period of time, you can issue a temporary identity card. You can get it in the territorial division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs dealing with migration issues, after your application for a replacement passport is accepted for work. To do this, you will need an additional photograph.

The certificate is valid only on the territory of the Russian Federation. It must be returned when you receive a new passport.
