What rights does a conscript have before, during and after military service
What rights does a conscript have before, during and after military service

Choose an alternative service

Traditional conscript military service is allowed to replace an alternative civilian service. A conscript has the right to apply for it in two cases:

  1. If serving in the army contradicts his religious beliefs or personal convictions, that is, for some reason, he does not want to deal with weapons and military structures and can convincingly explain this to the draft board.
  2. If he belongs to a small indigenous people and leads a traditional way of life for such a community.

Alternative service is, in fact, a regular job in government agencies or in the same military structures, but in civilian positions. For example, a conscript may be identified as an orderly in a hospital, as a caregiver, or as a loader. The exact list of available professions is approved by the Ministry of Labor. When applying for a job, the education and skills of the conscript may be considered, but not required.

Alternative service does not last 12 months, but 21. At the same time, the conscript will most likely be left to go through it in his native region so as not to provide housing.

Switch to contract service instead of urgent

To serve under a contract means to become part of a professional army. It is no longer conscripts who are operating here, who at the very least will be trained to obey orders and assemble submachine guns, and then sent to the reserve. These are military personnel who have chosen the army as their job for at least the duration of the contract. For this, they receive all the bonuses that the state is ready to offer them: a full salary, more precisely, monetary allowance, housing, the prospect of a military mortgage.

Any conscript has the right to switch to a contract if he has served for at least three months. And if he has a secondary or higher education, then this can be done earlier - at any time. True, the minimum contract term is two years, which is twice as long as conscript service.

Quit early

Of course, this cannot be done without a good reason. A soldier will be released earlier from service in certain situations:

  • His health condition no longer allows him to remain in the army.
  • His father or brother died while serving on conscription, at a training camp or as a result of an injury received in the army.
  • He needs to look after a close relative, and no one can do it for him.
  • His second or any next child was born to him.
  • His child up to three years old was assigned a disability group.

Sleep at least 8 hours a day

By law, the regime of military personnel depends on a specific military unit. But if there is no force majeure, each of them should be allowed at least eight hours of sleep every day and at least two hours of personal time.

They can also qualify for one day of rest per week. Usually it is Sunday or holidays, but they can be rescheduled in case of business need.

Take a vacation and drive to the venue for free

A serviceman can be granted leave for personal reasons for up to 10 days. They are allowed to use it in several cases:

  • a close relative has become seriously ill or died;
  • the family has been hit by a fire or other natural disaster;
  • it is necessary to leave for other reasons, how respectful they are - the unit commander decides.

The travel time is added to the vacation days. Train, bus and other public transport tickets are free.

Send emails for free

In the unit, the soldier will be given envelopes with a special mark, which allows you to pay nothing for sending simple correspondence. You can send letters in any quantity.

Get paid

The salary of a conscript consists of a salary and allowances. The salary is 2,000 rubles, and if we are talking about conscription service in the National Guard, the FSB and similar structures - 2,086 rubles.

The surcharge depends on the circumstances and amounts to:

  • from 10 to 25% of the salary - for working with state secrets (the size is influenced by the level of secrecy of information);
  • up to 40% - for commanding a unit;
  • up to 50% - for the disposal of explosive objects and extinguishing fires;
  • 55% - for military orphans;
  • up to 100% - for diving and parachute jumping.

Income tax is not paid on allowance.

Recover from college after service

College studies do not always guarantee postponement. If this is the first full-time training, then the potential conscript is safe, but getting a second higher education may well be interrupted by a summons from the military registration and enlistment office.

Military conscription is a good reason to take an academic leave and then continue your studies at a university.

Recover from work after service

If a soldier worked in a state company before being drafted, then it must accept him again, and for a position not lower than the previous one. The soldier has three months after demobilization to recover from work.

This requirement does not apply to commercial structures.
