If your computer is used by several people or you want to distinguish between work and personal life in the browser - this is what you need.

When to use multiple profiles

The first and most obvious reason for creating a second profile in Chrome is to share your computer with someone else. It could be your wife, child, or mom. Separate accounts in this case will allow you to isolate personal data and get rid of search ads targeted to another user.

However, it's important to remember that every Chrome user can easily navigate to another's profile. No passwords are requested during the transition.

You should only use the browser on one device with someone you trust.

Also, two accounts in Chrome may well be needed for one person who wants to separate the data of work and personal profiles.

If the other person uses your browser infrequently, then the simple guest mode is suitable, in which no browsing history is saved. It is activated in the drop-down menu of profiles.

How to manage profiles on desktop

Adding a second profile

1. In the Chrome browser, in the upper right corner of the window, click the button with your name.
2. Select "Manage Users" and then click "Add User".
3. Type in a name, select an image and click "Add".

In the window that opens, you can sign in to your new Chrome profile with your Google account. However, this is optional: you can use the browser without authorization.

When you create a second profile, a shortcut for Chrome automatically appears on your desktop, allowing you to go straight to your account. For each user, you can create your own shortcut, which is very convenient.

Login to your profile

Since shortcuts are created for each profile, which differ in icons, you can log into your Chrome account using them.

If the browser is already open and you want to go to another profile, in the upper right corner of the window, click on the button with the name and select the one you need. A new Chrome window will open just for you.

Deleting a Profile

1. In the Chrome browser, in the upper right corner of the window, click the button with your name.
2. Select "Manage Users".
3. In the window that opens, move the mouse cursor over the account you want to delete and click on the ellipsis in the corner.
4. Select "Remove User" and confirm the action.

When you delete a profile from Chrome, all data associated with it will also be deleted from your computer.

How to use multiple profiles on smartphones and tablets

On iPhone and iPad, the Chrome browser can be used with only one account. On Android gadgets, it is also impossible to add a second profile in the browser, but if urgently needed, you can add a user in the settings of the device itself.

To do this, go to "Settings" → "Users and accounts". Then select "Users" → "Add account". The new user will be able to work with the browser and customize it at their own discretion.
