If we are to sit within four walls, then in a cozy and beautiful place.
Due to the coronavirus, educational institutions are being quarantined, companies are transferring employees to remote work, and public events are canceled. If you are used to spending most of your time outside the home, isolation will probably feel like torture to you. But this feeling can be mitigated by making the home more comfortable. We will tell you what can be done to wait out the epidemic in pleasant conditions.
1. Arrange the workplace
If you were transferred to a remote location, and there is no workplace at home, it is difficult to concentrate: the mood is not the same, and your back aches from the whole day on the couch.
The minimum set for a home office is a table, a desk chair and a table lamp. Choose a bright spot in the apartment, but not directly in front of the window, so that the sun's rays do not light up the screen. It's good if there is a power outlet nearby to charge your laptop and phone. If not, take care of an extension cord.
To make your workplace comfortable, complement it with accessories: a cork board, an organizer for papers, a pencil holder. A small plant - succulent or cactus will add liveliness.
If you don't feel like buying a desk and office chair, use what you already have. Place a lamp on your dining table and bring a sofa cushion from the living room to make your kitchen chair more comfortable. If you have a deep and not too high windowsill, you can use it as a table. Buy a laptop stand to work on the couch or in bed. And instead of a pencil holder, take a glass or a cup - they can handle it just as well.
2. Carry out a general cleaning
It is easier to breathe in a clean house. Therefore, I advise you to do a general cleaning: wash the windows, wash the curtains, clean the carpets and sofas, disassemble the contents of the cabinets and throw away the excess. There will be less dust in the air and free space on the shelves.
3. Do minor repairs
It happens that there are minor malfunctions in the house, which are beyond the reach of our hands. Quarantine is a great excuse to fix them: fix a dripping faucet, tighten kitchen cabinet doors, grease door hinges, mask scratches on laminate flooring. This will reduce the number of sources of irritation in the house.
4. Optimize storage
It's great when you know exactly where to look for batteries, a shoebrush or a sewing kit. This happens if the storage is properly organized in the house and things are in their places.
Start by decluttering: throw away the things you don't like and rarely need. Divide the rest into categories depending on the situations in which they are used. Take away those that are rarely needed, and leave the most "popular" ones close at hand. Find places for things that are convenient for returning them. This makes it more likely that order will persist for a long time.
If you want to make your home even more convenient, create sets of things for different occasions. Host cocktail parties often - place glasses, shaker, napkins on the tray. Treat your shoes with care - collect boxes of care products and accessories for different pairs.
5. Organize a home library
If you want to spend more time reading, quarantine is a good option. And the home library will help organize books and decorate the interior.
To decorate a library, you will need a shelf or display cabinet. The second option is better: books in a closed cabinet are less dusty.
Arrange publications by height, cover colors, authors or genres. Do not fill the shelves chock-full: they may not stand it. Take empty spaces with framed photographs, boxes, figurines, small artificial plants.
6. Create seating areas
Think about how you enjoy spending time at home and organize areas for your favorite activities. Equip a workshop, reading space or board games. Place a table and chairs on your balcony to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets in a comfortable environment.
7. Rearrange furniture
If you often bang your little finger against the closet or have to reach for a book every night from the nightstand on the other side of the bed, consider rearranging.
Just don't rush to drag heavy furniture like a sofa, bed or closet right away. First, measure the items with a tape measure and figure out how they will fit in a new place. If you do not want to rely on the eye, trace the space with masking tape: it is not too sticky, so it can be easily removed and does not spoil the finish.
8. Designate a place for sports
People who switch to remote work move less: they do not need to go to a bus stop or parking lot, climb stairs, or walk around the office. Lack of activity affects performance, mood and health, so it makes sense to make room for exercise and buy basic equipment.
If you plan to do yoga or bodyweight exercises, a gym mat is enough. Love intense workouts - get dumbbells, weights and fitness bands.
9. Improve the bedroom
Quarantine is a reason to sleep well. I propose to improve the atmosphere in the bedroom so that you can spend 8-10 hours a day pleasantly.
Order a mattress cleaning or clean it yourself. Buy comfortable pillows and blankets for the season, bed linen made from natural materials. If in the evenings the light of lanterns or headlights does not allow you to fall asleep, hang blackout curtains on the windows.
Add pleasant scents: install an aroma diffuser, place a sachet of perfume of your choice under pillows and in cabinets. Choose soothing scents: lavender, lemon balm, mint, cedar.
10. Plant greenery in the apartment
Plants purify the air and saturate it with oxygen. Choose the ones that you like in appearance and fit in properties, and order online.
Houseplants are usually brought in simple plastic pots. To organically fit the greenery into the interior, buy suitable planters. Do not forget about the soil and drainage: you will need them when you transplant the plant.
Another way to make an apartment green is to arrange bouquets around the house. But it will cost more, and cut flowers will last a maximum of a couple of weeks.
11. Decorate the interior with your own hands
The interior looks habitable when it contains details that tell about the owners. If you are fond of drawing - write a couple of pictures and hang them on the walls. Sculpt from clay - Place your homemade pottery in a prominent place. Knit or sew - make rugs, bedspreads, or pillow covers. So you will spend your free time with pleasure and benefit.
