Nadya Zima, a copywriter and journalist, talks about how to understand by a smile what character traits are inherent in a person, and also shares tips on how to develop a sense of humor.
From joy and euphoria to schadenfreude and bitterness, laughter can express the entire spectrum of human emotions. If we try to control the manifestations of anger consciously, then a sincere smile usually does not meet psychological barriers and, appearing on the face spontaneously, becomes a clue to the personality.
The cheerfulness of a person is the most outstanding trait of a person, with legs and arms. Do not figure out another character for a long time, but the person will laugh in some way very sincerely, and his whole character will suddenly appear at a glance. Only with the highest and happiest development can a person have fun communicatively, that is, irresistibly and good-naturedly.
F. M. Dostoevsky "Teenager"
How quiet and ambitious laugh
It is not necessary to be a psychologist to correlate the manner of laughing with the inherent character traits. Observe people from a close circle, and you will notice that the smile of each of them corresponds to the image that has already formed in your imagination. The gestures and facial expressions accompanying laughter speak eloquently about personal qualities.
- Covering the mouth with a palm indicates that the person is not too confident in himself and tries not to attract undue attention. Most likely, he is sensitive to criticism, prone to reflection and self-examination.
- Throwing back the head indicates that the laughing person is open to new things, is easily involved in what is happening and enjoys life. He is not offended by trifles and is inclined to see the world in a rosy light, often has leadership qualities.
- Theatrical grimaces and emotional body movements indicate that you are an ambitious person. He knows how to infect with fun, but he longs for the full response from the audience in the form of universal attention and compliments. Despite the seeming openness, he can be incredulous and cautious.
- Capricious and infantile people laugh, wrinkling their nose. They have seven Fridays a week. They tend to change their views, hobbies, and priorities.
- If a person suppresses a smile, this indicates that he controls emotions, is as collected as possible, and this prevents him from enjoying the moment. Such people know how to achieve their goals, but nevertheless need the support of loved ones.
Humor and its targets
Whether the laugh is funny, embarrassed, derisive, or mysterious, it almost never turns out to be aimless. Agree that laughing alone is not interesting, and the point of a joke and a witty remark is in the opportunity to share them. Hence the social significance of humor. It facilitates cooperation, helps to express solidarity, establish contacts and defuse the situation, can serve as encouragement or punishment.
A developed sense of humor is one of the most desirable qualities of a modern person. Our ability to react to funny things and make jokes undergoes a test drive at every step - when finding employment, joining a new team, communicating with friends and establishing relationships with the opposite sex. Stock up on a couple of anecdotes for different contexts, and you can fill in the awkward pause in an original way and make a good impression.
How to develop a sense of humor
A good sense of humor can be considered a form of giftedness, however, like any other talent, it is amenable to development. Even if you need a sign with the words "Sarcasm", joke out of place and take other people's jokes literally, you have a chance to become the life of the company.
The comic means available to everyone were described by the teacher and inventor Yuri Tamberg in the book How to Develop a Sense of Humor. Here are some universal tips, following which you can learn not only to joke sparklingly, but also just to enjoy life.
1. Learn to see the comic
Wit involves the ability to distinguish good from bad - to know the norms of behavior and recognize deviations from them. You can joke about stupidity, laziness, careerism, greed, childishness and other human vices. But, making fun of shortcomings, do not get personal - humor should remain kind.
2. Use associations
Learn to find common ground between dissimilar phenomena. The ability to draw paradoxical analogies will help you joke wittily and look at the world from a different angle.
Remember the school curriculum. Tropes and stylistic figures (metaphors, metonymy, hyperbole, impersonation, rhetorical questions) are an excellent basis for a witty remark.
3. Do not be afraid of the absurd
"Impenetrable stupidity" uttered at the right moment can defuse the situation. People with a sense of humor are sure to spot a logical fallacy and appreciate your ingenuity.
4. Try to rhyme
Jokes in poetic form are remembered for a long time and speak about the versatility of the author. Few people know that A. Pushkin was the master of this genre (“I am captivated, I am fascinated, in a word - I am fired!”).
For those who do not succumb to classical rhyme, there are genres of Internet folklore "pie" and "powder" (lazy fat and funny / there is a seal on the shore / I am not a seal, but in the same way / I can).
5. Broaden your horizons
A wide erudition contributes to the development of a sense of humor - read books, communicate with smart people, replenish your vocabulary.
6. Fight the enemies of humor
Do not let yourself be discouraged, give up the idea that negativity prevails in the world, and take time to rest, because mental and physical fatigue discolored life.
Having learned to joke wittily and aptly, you can conquer any audience, save yourself and others from the autumn blues and survive any hardships in life. Remember that many doors open before those who go through life laughing.
