It happens that you cannot finish reading a single article, you constantly jump from topic to topic, and not because it is not interesting, but because you simply cannot concentrate? Are you frightened by large articles, long films that you can only watch in two or three sessions, and you haven't thought about serious books for a long time? No matter how old you are, you can still have attention deficit disorder, and it is better to start getting rid of it early.
The number of adults with attention deficit disorder is increasing, and the Internet plays an important role here with its bright and short messages, an abundance of useless but funny information and a huge choice. The more a person surfs the Internet in search of jokes, the more chances he has to get used to receiving information in this way - short, funny and as simple as possible.
How does the internet give rise to ADD?
A person simply gets used to a chaotic wandering among the information masses and can no longer read long sentences or listen to someone else's speech to the end.
Social networks occupy an honorable place among the causes of ADD on the Internet.
In them, information is supplied to a person in small, varied portions, with great speed and intensity. We watched the news, left a comment under a new photo, flipped through the public with short, funny remarks - everything is fast, simple, even faster, even easier.
If you compare such information acquisition with dinner in terms of quantity and quality, it turns out that instead of a normal dish, you eat a crouton, then a spoonful of ice cream, a handful of nuts, eat pickles, and so on. Eat like this every day and see what happens to your stomach. The same happens with the brain.
How to check if you have ADD?
If you are in doubt as to whether you can be considered a lucky person with ADD, check this out:
- You are disorganized, it is difficult for you to get together.
- You do not start tasks right away; you are wasting time before starting.
- You have many projects, and most of them will never end.
- You get bored quickly.
- You make decisions on impulse and don't think long.
- When people tell you something, you turn off and at the end of the speech you just nod and smile.
- When things are done slowly, you get desperate or just freak out.
- You tap your pen on the table, jerk your foot, and perform other meaningless actions.
- You have communication problems and are often aggressive and irritable.
- You are often hungry for information.
- It is difficult for you to learn something new because you cannot concentrate.
If this is familiar to you, it's time to pull yourself together and start getting rid of the bad habit of intercepting pieces of information, because it will only get worse.
Change your online habits
The first thing to do is to remove the cause of the disorder, and this does not mean that you need to give up the Internet. You can simply change your habits and methods of learning.
- Limit your time on social media, for example, to one hour a day. You can split it into several parts and go to your profile in the morning and before bed.
- Organize your work so that you don't jump from tab to tab. When you read the news, read it to the end without following the link in the middle of the article.
- Read great articles. Do not look for easy ways and simplified, as for morons, explanations. Want to know a topic? Immerse yourself in it for a while, if, of course, it deserves it.
- If you are on Skype, do not drop messages on every occasion or without it at all. If you are bombarded with messages, you do not have to answer them right away - first finish what you were doing, and then proceed to the correspondence. Remember, multitasking reduces efficiency.
And some more tips
Monitor your body activity. If you start to twirl aimlessly in your hands, fidget in place, bite your lips, try to note this and stop yourself. Develop a habit of sitting quietly, without twitching.
Read books. It is advisable to choose not light pulp fiction, but something more serious and requiring concentration. You can even notice how many minutes will pass before your thoughts float far, far away, and your eyes wander uselessly along the lines.
Learn to communicate. Listen to people, concentrate on what they are saying, even if it is not very interesting. And do not rush to insert your remark, wait for the person to finish, pause and say something on the topic. Try to speak in an even, calm voice without rushing.
Listen to non-background music. A person with ADD cannot just sit and listen, he needs to fill in all the channels of information - watch, twirl something in his hands. Turn on the music and just listen to it for half an hour. Chances are, you’ll find that you’ve never really heard music or really enjoyed it. You will simply understand how much pleasure you have been depriving yourself of, the main thing is to choose the right tracks.
Learn to take a break from information. Quit taking a break from working on social networks and entertainment resources, learn to just do nothing for 10 minutes. Relax in your chair, close your eyes, you can think about something or be in a state of thoughtlessness (aerobatics). You can also change a few get-togethers in a noisy bar, evenings in front of a TV or computer screen for quiet walks alone, when thoughts flow in your head in a smooth stream, without the usual fuss.
