One of the modern ways of interaction between artists interested in exploring new cultures, spaces and people is art residences. Alina Ushakova, journalist of the StudyQA educational programs search engine, presents a selection of the best art residences of 2016, where people of creative professions will come from all over the world to exchange experience or jointly create new projects.
Residences are thematic and open, aimed at achieving a specific result or discussing key issues of the modern world. Nowadays, many of them do not limit their recruitment to visual artists only and accept writers, actors, dancers, musicians and curators.
Summer in the park in Gettysburg, USA
Closest deadline: April 10, 2016.
The Gettysburg, Pennsylvania National Park and Foundation hosts eight art residencies throughout 2016, starting on the 15th of each month. The foundation provides a scholarship of $ 1,000 to participants in the residency. The park has a significant military history for America: the battles of the war between the North and the South took place here.
All necessary materials must be brought to the residence. Participants will be accommodated in an old house from 1863, the studio is located in a building in the park.

Nine weeks in Ireland

The Fall Seminar will take place from 11 September to 13 November 2016 at the Cow House Studios in the Irish village of Ratnur. Hotel Maria Kapel (HMK) is an art center located in the small town of Horne, 40 kilometers north of Amsterdam. On the territory of the HMK there is a cinema, studios for artists and a chapel. On average, the length of stay in the residence is from four to eight weeks. One of the tasks of the participants in the residence is to hold an exhibition in a chapel or in another part of the city.
The organizers promise to provide free accommodation, meals and assistance in finding travel grants.

The Headlands Art Center is located in San Francisco, in the picturesque Golden Gate Recreation Park. A wide range of creative people are invited to participate in the residence - from writers and artists to dancers and musicians. The registration period for applications to the art residence is from April 19 to June 3, 2016.
The organizers are responsible for all expenses. There is also the option to get an additional $ 500 per month personal expenses scholarship.

The International Poetry Center in Marseille is opening a recruitment for the art residence for writers and poets for the spring of 2017. Participants will receive a scholarship of 1,300 euros per month and free accommodation in a studio apartment.
