My first attempts at self-organization manifested themselves in the middle grades of a comprehensive school. They were scheduling and trying to keep it. Time passed, and I learned that this is called time management, and the daily schedule is just a small part of it.

Over time, my knowledge was replenished with information about goal setting and life planning. Then the GTD system appeared. And at some point, the realization came that even the process of completing tasks needs to be organized.

The problem was that all this knowledge was useful, necessary, but not collected into some kind of working system. Like a pile of bricks from which a house was just to be built.

I don't know how, but my inner architect and engineer one day gave me a blueprint for the organization of life, which consists of four levels:

  1. Organization of goals.
  2. Organization of plans.
  3. Organization of affairs.
  4. Organization of processes.

Each of these levels is important and closely related to others, but still these are different "disciplines" that each striving for success must master and learn to synchronize with each other.

1. Organization of goals

We can have different life goals, talk about the individuality or community of a person's mission, but we agree on one thing: without conscious goals, our life is like the life of an amoeba.

Sometimes, for the sake of adventure, you can get on the first bus or train that comes along and experience the thrill of the unknown and the unexpected. But on the path of life, there may not be an opportunity to return.

Therefore, before drawing a map and preparing a high-speed car, you need to decide on the ultimate goal of the trip. It is important to understand your mission and purpose in life. Without this, everything else is absolutely useless.

The third level of organization for many is everything they know about time management. But this is just a car on our journey. Yes, with a goal and a map and walking towards it, we may not be in time. But it's still better than running around the prairie without a goal and a map in a car like a veteran of the Brownian movement.

Therefore, I repeat: before mastering the tools of time management or GTD, first, clearly define your life goals and plans to achieve them.

On the other hand, no matter how important the first two levels are, it will be difficult without organizing affairs. Life will not say, “Oh! This guy decided on his mission, goals and planned their achievement! I'll leave him alone. No, life will not stop throwing you everyday problems and urgent tasks that are not related to your mission, but which cannot be ignored.

Therefore, the level of organization of affairs should help us cope with the entire routine and maintain the correct life balance.
