Copy text from smartphone to computer and vice versa without additional tools.
When you need to transfer text from one device to another, each acts in its own way. Someone is creating a document in Dropbox or Google Drive. Someone is sending themselves a letter or a message in a messenger. Some even install third-party apps like Pushbullet.
However, you can use a browser as well. Everyone knows that in Chrome you can send links to your other devices. Of course, provided that the browser from Google is also installed there. However, Chrome is able to send not only links, but also any text selected in the browser.
This feature works in a browser for Windows 10, macOS, Linux and Android. IOS users are still in the air. You will need Chrome version 79 or higher, so make sure the updates are downloaded.
Sign in to the same Google account on your Android, PC and Mac. Then open Chrome on your computer and type in the address bar:
chrome: // flags /
Press Enter and you will see hidden Chrome settings. Enter the word in the settings search bar
clipboard
… Three options will appear:
- Enable receiver device to handle shared clipboard feature.
- Enable shared clipboard feature signals to be handled.
- Sync clipboard services.
Select Enabled from the drop-down menus next to them. Then restart Chrome by clicking on the Relaunch button that appears at the bottom.
This operation will need to be repeated with Chrome installed on all of your laptops and desktops where you want to use the shared clipboard. You don't need to do anything on mobile devices.
Now select the text, right-click it and you will see a new item "Copy to my device" in the context menu. Hover over it and choose which device to send the text to.
It will appear on the clipboard, and you can paste it wherever you want. And not necessarily in Chrome.
