The free Signal mobile application is designed to ensure privacy during telephone conversations and correspondence. And yes, this is exactly the application that Edward Snowden himself recommends to use.

We already wrote about the Signal app when it came to iOS. After the revealing revelations of the former American intelligence officer Edward Snowden, it became finally clear that privacy today is an empty phrase. If you are interested in authorized structures, then no secret messengers and encryption will save you. However, Open Whisper Systems challenged the almighty Big Brother and developed its own technology to protect telephone conversations and private correspondence.

The Signal program is the successor to the RedPhone and TextSecure programs previously released by the same developers, which provide secure voice and text communications between subscribers. Now the functions of these two programs are combined together, and the interface has been significantly redesigned in the direction of simplification.

When you start the program for the first time, you will be prompted to link your account to a phone number, for which a special SMS with a code will be sent. After that, you can assign Signal as the main program for sending messages and making calls.

The Signal interface is practically the same as the default dialer, so you can figure it out without any difficulty. We select the desired contact from the built-in phone book and press the button with a pencil, if you need to send a message, or with a picture of a telephone receiver, if you want to call. Of course, encrypted communication requires both callers to use Signal. In the event that you select in the address book a subscriber who is not registered in Signal, he will be sent an offer to download and install this program.

The main difference between Signal and existing competitors lies in reliable encryption algorithms and a simple interface. Thanks to these features, technologies of the Open Whisper Systems company are already used in the popular CyanogenMod system, where the private messaging system is implemented, and the famous WhatsApp messenger. Signal encryption algorithms were also highly appreciated in the expert community. Cryptographic expert Christopher Soghoian once remarked that "every time another user downloads and starts using Signal, the FBI director sheds a tear."
