Not so long ago, we wrote about how you can protect personal and work correspondence. One of the best ways is to use the Signal app, which previously only existed for iOS and Android.

The desktop version came out in December, but it was invite-only. From this day on, Signal is available to everyone as a Chrome application.

Recall that Signal binds to a mobile number and can be used to communicate with any contacts from the phone book of a smartphone. In this case, end-to-end encryption extends not only to text messages, photos and files, but also to calls.

To use a secure messenger, you need to install the Android version and register an account with your phone number. Only after that it makes sense to install a desktop Signal.

When installing the Chrome application, the program will display a QR code that needs to be scanned by a smartphone via the Android version of Signal (Settings → Linked devices → Add device). After that, the account can be used both on a computer and on a smartphone.

The desktop application is currently in beta testing, so some features are not working correctly or are missing. Note that registration and synchronization is possible only with the Android application, the function is not yet supported for Apple devices. In addition, you cannot receive, view, or send SMS on the desktop.
