Instagram stubbornly does not want to go beyond smartphones, so personal computer users have all their hopes for third-party clients. For example, on Ramme there is a high-quality minimalistic social network client.
A faithful smartphone is quickly discharged, not always at hand, tiring of a long use of a small screen - all these reasons can make you interrupt the contemplation of the Instagram feed and think about an alternative for a computer. However, as you know, the official client of the social network is only available for smartphones, and the web version leaves much to be desired.
It remains to search and choose among unofficial clients, and taking a certain risk. There are cases when such programs, along with viewing photos and videos on Instagram, also collected user credentials. That is why one should be doubly careful in this matter. Or look for an open source client like Ramme. The app is available for three main desktop platforms: OS X, Windows, and Linux. You can find the version for your operating system in the repository on GitHub.
To install, just unpack the archive and run Ramme, or first transfer the program file to the appropriate folder. After the first launch, you will need to enter your account name and password or use the Facebook login option. Immediately after this small and quite obvious procedure, you can start using Instagram on your computer.
Ramme users have the same capabilities as the official Instagram client for smartphones, except for editing and posting images and videos. In other words, there are four tabs in front of you: feed, interesting people, news from your account and your profile with the ability to edit it. You can safely give out likes and leave comments, search for users and subscribe to them.
But there are also some limitations. So, the tab with interesting people allows you to search and view the users recommended for you to subscribe. You will not find a selection of random publications, as in the version for smartphones, here. Also, you will not be able to monitor the activity of users to whom you are subscribed: this tab simply does not exist.
Ramme's interface is very simple. It is impossible to get confused, everything is intuitive for any Instagram user. The application is free and multiplatform, open source, which prevents theft of your account if you download it from the official repository. Overall a great alternative to many other social network clients (with a few caveats related to missing features).
