The popular Prisma application for image processing using neural networks has received an important innovation - the ability to edit images without an Internet connection.
The instant success that Prisma was able to achieve did not discourage the developers from improving their project. Following the release of the version for the mobile operating system Android, the application received a major update in the version for iOS.
In case you haven't been following the news too closely, Prisma is a popular application that uses neural networks to turn photographs and any images into works of virtual art. More precisely, the pictures are transformed into paintings painted in the style of famous artists.
Previously, all image processing processes took place outside the user's smartphone, so an Internet connection was required for Prisma to work. In the updated version of the iOS application, the developers managed to transfer the transformation process to the device, allowing Prisma to be used even without an active data connection. The only caveat: not all filters are available for offline use yet.
The developers claim that the update has optimized the performance of Prisma. So, image processing on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will take about three seconds, and on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus - no more than two and a half seconds.
In addition, the power of the servers serving Prisma already now allows us to transform not only images, but also video using the same neural networks. Therefore, the emergence of the possibility of processing videos is quite likely in the future. In the meantime, the developers promise an early update of the Prisma version for Android with a similar innovation.
