Microsoft bought Wunderlist. So what's now?

If you are a Wunderlist user, the news that Microsoft has acquired it should have sent you deeply worried. This company has long been famous for its ability to melt gold into an incomprehensible substance (the names of Nokia and Skype tell you something?), So it's time to take care of switching to some other suitable list service. This article will show you how to do this.

Of course, in order to move to any other task manager, you must first extract your data from Wunderlist. There are two ways to accomplish this task.

Todoport is a way for ordinary people

The creators of this site seemed to know about Microsoft's insidious plans and made sure that our move was as comfortable as possible. currently supports Wunderlist, Toodledo, Todoist, Trello, Asana, Google Tasks and allows data juggling between these task managers in any combination and direction. So, if Microsoft decides to buy more of the above names, then you will know where to go.

To move your data, you just need to select Wunderlist in the left pane, and then your new task manager in the right. After that, you need to log in to each of the services, mark the necessary items with the checkboxes and click the blue Export button in the upper left corner.

After a couple of minutes, Todoport will display a pop-up notification about the successful completion of the operation and you can wipe the sweat from your forehead, breathe a sigh of relief and show Microsoft your fig. You can't take us so easily with your bare hands!

JSON export - the way of the Jedi

If you are not looking for easy ways in life, then you can try exporting your data from the Wunderlist service in JSON format. I'm sure you know perfectly well what this beast is, but just in case, let me remind you that JSON is a textual data exchange format based on JavaScript and is usually used with this particular language (I spied on Wikipedia).

To export data, you need to log into your Wunderlist account (for now, this can be done without a Microsoft account) and go to the settings. There you will find the "Create Backup" button, which I have circled in the screenshot with a nice red frame. After the first click on this button, it will turn blue and change its name to the familiar command "Click to download". Click again, and the desired file will be saved on your hard disk.

Now that you have completed all these steps, I will tell you what the problem is with this method. The fact is that the resulting file in JSON format is absolutely impossible to shove somewhere. That is, none of the task management services I know supports import in this format. But you can convert it to CSV format (here's a good one), open it in a spreadsheet editor and admire the slender columns of data. Who said being a Jedi was easy?

Now that you know how to extract your lists from the Wunderlist, all you have to do is choose a service to trust them. Our roundup of the best services of this kind, as well as separate articles on Todoist, Trello, Toodledo and Asana, can help you with this.

Read, compare, choose.
