Everyone is in awe of the battle scenes and Henry Cavill.

Comparison with Game of Thrones and the books: first reviews of The Witcher from Netflix

The embargo on the publication of full reviews of The Witcher from Netflix subsides only on December 20, the day of the premiere. However, some critics have already managed to get acquainted with the series and share their first impressions on Twitter. The reviews are short but rather eloquent.

I've seen the first 5 eps. Admittedly I’m bias as i live the game and the genre, but it’s probably up there with Mando and Watchmen as my favorite shows of the year

The series' battle scenes are overwhelming, especially when compared to Game of Thrones.

Oh I will say this. The fight scenes in The Witcher make Game of Thrones fight scenes look like two drunks fighting outside a bar.

The cast is praised by many, especially Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

I’ve seen some of season one of ‘The Witcher’ and I am sooo happy it is getting a second season!

So … I’ve never really been thirsty for Henry Cavill. I mean, I get he’s handsome but just haven’t.

Also, critics noted the discrepancy with the original plot of Andrzej Sapkowski's books.

After watching the five episodes Netflix put out as screeners, I do want to say one thing to all of the fans of the books - it's not a review and there are no spoilers: If you go into it thinking it's going to be EXACTLY like the books, you're going to be disappointed.

The show follows the heart and soul of the overall story. It is extremely well done, but be prepared for some differences. I truly believe fans of the books - and even fans of the games - will like this adaptation. But remember, it's just that - an adaptation.

All episodes of the first season of "The Witcher" should be available for viewing on December 20. Will you watch? Let us know in the comments.
