Who among us in childhood did not dream of becoming an astronaut and visiting distant planets? A small web application by a Dutch programmer will allow you to go even further and find yourself in a black hole!
Surely to some of our readers the creation of the Dutchman will seem like a button accordion. And yet the project has gathered quite a lot of fans. The Interstellar web application allows you to visit the most interesting objects in the Universe: a wormhole and a supermassive black hole. Yes, these are the objects around which the plot of the most popular science fiction film of our time, Interstellar, revolves.
is an interactive page (based on WebGL) and allows you to freely navigate between three-dimensional celestial bodies. Here you can admire the solar system (unfortunately, in a static mode, without newfangled updates of the current position of celestial bodies). And the most interesting thing will open if you get close to Saturn: next to it is a wormhole, which throws the user to the black hole.
The app is fully interactive. The controls are familiar to everyone who has played shooters at least once: W, A, S, D allow you to move. You can accelerate with the Shift key. Q and E are needed to rotate, and the mouse cursor and keyboard arrows are needed to look around.
The start screen meets with rather unsightly old-fashioned graphics. However, in the lower right corner there is a menu for adjusting the image quality. For those who are not enough, the author of the application has published the source code of his work.
