It seems that everything is quite simple: to lose weight, you need to move more and eat less; to increase your speed, you need to do interval jogging. And although there is some truth in this, this is far from the main thing. Success is based on the right environment.
What is the environment
These are all aspects of your life that affect your ability to achieve your goals and maintain good results. The concept of the environment is built on four key components: movement, nutrition, recovery, and your beliefs.
By assessing yourself against each of these four dimensions, you will determine whether you are in survival mode or prosperity mode.
If we're in survival mode, our bodies don't care if we want to look better or run faster. Unfortunately, most of us find ourselves in a similar state quite often: we eat on the go, do not get enough sleep, rely on coffee and energy drinks to somehow function during the day, do not give ourselves time to relax, scold ourselves and generally think about your health only last. Can you succeed in such a state? Probably yes, but at what cost?
When we are in prosperity mode, we wake up effortlessly and feel refreshed. We enjoy breakfast and take our coffee slowly. We are full of energy. We live an active life, and our good shape depends not so much on going to the gym, but on the whole lifestyle in general.
So, when we take care of our body - we move a lot, eat right, get enough sleep and think positively - we create an environment that helps us to be more efficient.
Research confirms this. For example, sleep deprivation has been found to inhibit weight loss. and even leads to the fact that we begin to eat poorly. … And if the body does not receive what it needs, do not expect miracles from it.
To understand whether you are surviving or thriving, think about your surroundings. Rate each of the items below on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 is survival and 5 is prosperity).
Traffic
- Are you active? (Perhaps you exercise every day, but the rest of the time is inactive, then this is not considered an active lifestyle.)
- Are you moving without pain or discomfort?
- How do you structure your workouts? Are you taking an integrated approach? (It includes massage with a special roller, exercises for joint mobility, warm-up and cool-down.)
Nutrition
- Are you eating fresh, organic food?
- Are you eating a balanced diet? (Diets that limit or, conversely, increase your intake of protein, fat, or carbohydrates tire the body.)
- Do you eat slowly and calmly? (Research has shown that eating in a rush leads to more calorie intake and more hunger.)
Recovery
- Are you sleeping well? (Good sleep means you can fall asleep easily, stay awake at night, and get up easily in the morning.)
- Do you sleep 7-8 hours? (If you consistently sleep for less than seven hours, your body goes into survival mode.)
- Are you giving yourself time to relax?
Beliefs
- How do you feel about yourself: positively or negatively?
- What type of thinking do you have: fixed or evolving? (People with a fixed mindset will think: “I always ate what I want, played sports and was in good shape, so it will be so now.” And people with a developing mind will say: “I am open to everything new and ready to try different an approach".)
- Is your behavior in line with your values?
results
Add all the points and divide the total by 20 (maximum possible score). The resulting number (as a percentage) reflects how well your environment is. For example, if in the end you got the number 10, then you are using only 50% of your potential (10 ÷ 20 = 50%). This is not a bad thing, it just means that you have a lot to develop.
Try for each item that you rated below four points, jot down a few ideas that will help you somehow improve this area of life.
