If you don't have enough time to read, you may be doing it all wrong. How to find time for books, read more and memorize what you read? We know the answers.

A new way to read more and more efficiently

We are used to reading from cover to cover and, having started even the most boring book, we do not leave it until we get to the end. But the unwillingness to finish reading an uninteresting story makes us put it off again and again, and as a result, we refuse to read altogether. And at the same time, we continue to regret that we read little.

Designer Tobias van Schneider has found a new approach to books that allows him to read more, comprehend what he read and remember what he needs.

In the era of short posts on Twitter and Facebook, our reading habits have changed, and the old approach kills any desire to pick up books. But who said that we are obliged to abide by the old rules, especially if they no longer work?

Here is a modern approach to reading that Tobias Schneider has successfully taken.

I read because it opens my eyes, makes me judge less and open more to new thoughts, to things that I do not yet know. Reading is a constant change of perspective, a habit that every designer should make.

1. Buy multiple books

Always buy several books at the same time. Have 3 to 10 unread books in your library at all times. This way you can pick up something that interests you at the moment, and stop using the excuse "I have nothing to read."

2. Read three books at the same time

Start reading three or four books at the same time and alternate between them depending on your mood. The alternation of fiction books with informative literature can be somewhat embarrassing, but here it all depends on you.

Your favorite books will automatically appear from those that you read. And if you get stuck on one of them, then continue reading others.

3. Read the way you want

From the moment you buy the book, it is completely yours, and you can do whatever you want with it. Didn't like the page? You can rip it out. Would you like to mark something in the margins? Forward!

You don't have to read chapters that you don't like. If you've read to a boring moment, just skip it and read on. And if you downloaded a book for just one chapter, just read it and delete it without any regret.

4. Quickly decide the fate of your books

If you bought a book, started reading it and realized that it is not interesting to you, put it aside for a while. Try reading a month later, for example, when you feel a little differently. If even then the book does not interest you, give up useless attempts to read it and give it to someone.

You don't have to read a book just because you bought it. It is because of such uninteresting books that some of us stop and read nothing at all for several months.

5. Make the books your own

The book is as good as you think it is. Anything can be written in the announcements, but if two people buy the same piece, it will be different for each of them.

What's great about books is that we read and interpret them differently depending on who we are at the moment.

Therefore, the stories and novels that you read a year ago are completely different now. Just remember this.

6. Always take your books with you

At any free moment - on public transport, at a bus stop, in a queue - you can read several pages. Always remember that there are several unread books on your smartphone.

7. Read twice

Reading the book a second time has a magical effect. The first time we read, we are focused on the story the author is telling.

The second time we read it, we feel the book more emotionally. We project our personality onto the told story and, as it were, read about ourselves.

Is it difficult for you to bring yourself to read the book twice? Tobias Schneider uses audiobooks for this. If Tobias has been reading a piece for more than a week, he finds it in audio format and starts listening from the very beginning.

Because of this, the reading is somewhat delayed. The audio version lags behind the paper version by 20-40 pages, and yet it is close enough to remind of what was read only recently.

These seven rules will help you not only read more, but also memorize more, feel better about books and get the most out of them.
