How to choose the right flowers
How to choose the right flowers

Each time choosing flowers takes a huge amount of time for me, because I don't really want to buy a bouquet, which in an hour will turn into a broom. And not because I took them for a long time, but because the flowers were not very fresh. When choosing roses, I look at the leaves, at the cut of the stem and at how tightly the sepals (the green part of the flower) adhere to the buds. This is where my knowledge ends. Sometimes it turns out to choose the right flower, sometimes it doesn't.

Here are just a few tips to stop pointing your finger at the sky and choose really fresh flowers. Moreover, the spring women's holiday is on the nose;)

The tips are very simple and pretty obvious. But getting into a flower shop and being among a riot of colors and smells, for some, everything disappears from the head. And if you add the magic of a well-trained salesperson here, you find yourself already on the porch of the store with a ready-made bouquet. Not always good.

Choose semi-open flowers with buds

Of course, a fully blooming flower looks much more beautiful than a half-blooming flower or a bud. But the blossoming flower will not last long and will soon wither. The best option is half-open mixed with buds. Then this bouquet can please the eye for a very long time.

When choosing buds, you also need to be very careful, since sometimes sellers remove withered petals and an already opened flower magically turns into a bud. Of course, a bouquet of these flowers will last very little. In this case, you need to look at the sepal - if it fits snugly in the bud, then the flower is still fresh. And if it has dried up and fully opened, then you are being offered a long-blooming flower.

Examine the stem and leaves carefully

Leaves and stems should be intact and fresh looking, fleshy and firm to the touch. The same goes for the appearance of the petals. If the leaves look lethargic, this means that the flower is not the first freshness and, possibly, the stem is damaged. And it is better to choose plants with straight stems. The more bends, the more difficult it is for moisture and nutrients to get to the bud.

We check for diseases and insects

When buying flowers, in addition to the appearance, you need to pay attention to the presence of insects or diseases. Otherwise, you risk bringing uninvited guests with you - ants and aphids. White bloom on the leaves can also be a sign of illness. And if the owners of the house have flowers, guests may want to stay permanently and then they will have to treat all indoor plants with a special tool.

And in general, a flower with gnawed leaves or covered with ants is not the most pleasant gift for a girl.

Checking the cut points and lower leaves

After carefully examining the integrity and presence of local residents, attention should be paid to the stems and lower leaves. If the flower has been in the water for a long time (which means that it is clearly not the first freshness), its stem and lower leaves will be slightly rotten.

You should also avoid dry, blackened or yellowed sections - this also suggests that the plant was cut for a long time and was without water for a long time.

And a little from myself

Make sure that your girlfriend does not have any prejudices about color and origin (family) and is not addicted to horoscopes. If so, then you will have to familiarize yourself with the meanings (yellow - for separation, violets - for loneliness, etc., etc.), so that there are no misunderstandings and hints that you do not even suspect about. There are different things in life:)

I have always been tormented by the question why some men are so fond of giving one rose as high as a skyscraper? Some manage to find so long that the rose turns out to be as tall as the girl herself. I do not know what exactly men are guided by when buying these miraculous staves, but, firstly, it is terribly inconvenient to carry and you constantly want to throw it on your shoulder or shove it under your arm. Agree, a girl at the ready with a huge flower is not a particularly romantic sight. Especially if the rose has long and hard thorns. Secondly, such flowers usually wither very quickly, because the stem is too long and very little moisture reaches the flower itself.

And finally, thirdly, have you ever seen a vase that can accommodate a stem of this length ?! You will have to cut it anyway.

What flowers do you prefer to give? What are you guided by when choosing?
