My Pomodoro timer is ticking, prompting me to describe the Pomotodo app to you. It is about him that I will tell you today.
Many people get acquainted with the Pomodoro technique from notes and reviews. They are often shared by people who have improved their productivity with it. For example, here's a description from Farid. However, when retelling, details are lost that are obvious to the narrator, but important to you. This is exactly what happened to me with Pomodoro. In comparison with the same GTD, it seemed to me frankly weak.
Everything changed a month and a half ago. In addition to Lifehacker, I read "Habrahabr" - the most popular site for IT specialists on the Runet. In June, one of the Habr participants, Aleksey Yastrebov, posted a translation of the Pomodoro technique into Russian. As a result, my timer started playing again. It sounded with full force. It sounds now, with its ticking nudge to describe the application to you. It is about him that I will tell you today.
Pomotodo includes:
- timer for counting 25-minute work and 5-minute rest intervals;
- to-do list;
- tracker of completed "tomatoes";
- performance charts;
- synchronization between devices.
The Pomotodo developers live in China. Therefore, do not be intimidated by the hieroglyphs in the pictures. I confess, I did not publish my data. It was a pity for time to spend a whole "tomato" on making drawings with Russian text.
Timer
The timer is the heart of the Pomodoro technique. In the application, it always runs for 25 minutes. You cannot set the duration of the timer, but you can set whether at the end of the time the phone will ring / vibrate and tick during the "tomato" process.
After the call, you need to write down what you were doing. By default, the input field contains the first task in the list. If you have not completed it completely, then I recommend making a clarification.
By the way, to use the application, you need to register on the site. After that, you will be prompted to conduct a demo. During it, there will be not only a demonstration of the interface, but also a start of a timer for 25 seconds for example.
To-do list
Personally, I like hierarchical to-do lists. In Pomotodo, the hierarchy is organized using hashtags. When choosing one of them, the focus is on the tagged tasks. Unfortunately, there are currently no nested tasks and contexts.
The list can be sorted with a simple drag and drop. Naturally, there are editing and completion functions. Only completed cases can be deleted. In order for the task to be at the very top, it can be pinned. This is for the timer.
Tomatoes eaten tracker
After the completion of each "tomato" there is not only a 5-minute break, but also a record of what has been done. All your actions are collected in a tracker. At the end of the day, you can see when and what you were doing. At a time like this, I not only glance at the work done, but also edit the names of the completed tasks.
Charts
Based on the tracker, graphs of your performance are built. You can see which hours or days are most productive. For an objective picture, you need to use the application for at least a couple of weeks.
Synchronization between devices
Currently, Pomotodo comes in the form of several apps that sync online. I will give them in order of decreasing implemented functionality:
- Web version.
- Application for Android.
- Chrome application.
- IOS app optimized for iPhone.
Unfortunately, hashtags are only implemented in the online version. Therefore, I have to do the planning on the computer. I am attaching tasks for today. Then it's easier to focus on them by tracking your work with your iPad.
I will duplicate it again and point them to the applications.
Conclusion
Pomotodo does not correspond 100% to my idea of how the Pomodoro technique should be implemented. Apparently, I want too much from a tool that is still in beta. On the other hand, it is free, and in terms of functionality it beats many paid Pomodoro apps. Therefore, I recommend trying it. Before using it, it is worth brushing up on the technique by reading its full description.
