How to write your digital will. Google will help

We all expect to live a long and happy life. However, the villainous fate sometimes writes out such unexpected figures that even in a nightmare it is impossible to imagine. Have you ever wondered what will happen to your digital asset in the event of … well, let's say, in any accident?

If your entire digital archive consists of a couple of party photos and a few letters, then the loss may not be great. But if you have collected a huge photo archive of your life in Picasa, Gmail stores your correspondence with wonderful personalities, and your scientific work or dissertation remains in Google Docs, then this can be a real problem. Google has recognized its existence and proposes to solve it in a simple and natural way - by drawing up a digital will.

The company's new service is called Google just in case and is designed to solve the problem of "orphaned" digital archives. With it, you can tell Google in advance what to do with letters, photos, documents and other data from your account if you suddenly stop using it. In this case, two options are offered: either full or partial transfer of data to the person you specified, or their complete deletion.

To configure this new feature, you need to go to your account using this link. Here you will be asked first of all to provide a phone number and an alternative mailing address, to which a warning will be sent a month before the company takes the action you specified. Then you must specify a period of inactivity from three months to one year. In other words, if during this time you never log into your Google account, the company will transfer access to it to the person you specified or destroy them.

The third step will be to enter the details of your authorized person. You will need his mailing address and mobile phone number, to which an additional notification will be sent. Then you need to select the Google services where the information that is valuable to you is stored. After that, it remains only to activate this service and hope that you will never need it.
