The whole world was waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2. In panic, the developers postponed their projects, fearing competition, Twitter painted its own icon for the game, and ordinary people took vacations and sick leaves, just to immediately plunge into this long-awaited adventure. Launching the set-top box on Friday afternoon, I found 25 friends online, all exploring the Wild West. The working day is in full swing, and adults from serious companies are playing toys. Believe me, this is no accident.

One gets the impression that this is the most expensive work in the media space. More expensive than Infinity War and Avatar. The enormous efforts of thousands of people have been invested in the game, and every dollar is visible to the naked eye. Imagine what you would like to see in a video game - there is a 90% chance of doing it here. If you want to eat, sleep and take a shower in the game, so that passers-by do not shy away from you - please.

You dream of tinkering with a horse, building your own camp and going to a barber shop - and this is real. But first things first. I will say right away that it is impossible to overcome such a huge game over the weekend, so I will only tell you about what happened to me in the first 20 hours.

The plot begins with the protagonist's gang hiding from pursuit in some snow-covered village, where they teach us the basics: how to shoot, how to heal, what to watch, how to collect loot, and so on. There is a lot of information, it will take time to adapt, but then it will be impossible to tear you away.

The first time you see a snowy forest in the light of the moon, your jaw will naturally drop.

In a couple of hours we descend from the mountains and the actual game begins. A huge open world, 200 animal species, hundreds of tasks - and work with a family that will try to get you out of this incredibly detailed western. It is worth saying that even at the 20th hour, the game continues to present new pieces, which is a rarity for modern works.

Everything here is built so that each player has their own experience. In the prologue, we are given the basics, and then only your experiments. If you want to know what happens if you hit a horse - try it. Will the train stop if you get in its way? Try it. What happens if you tie a bandit to a wagon and roll him around town like Marty McFly from Back to the Future? Try it and find out.

According to the plot, the whole gang stops in the forest and begins to equip our camp. We hunt animals, get food for our comrades, we ransack villages to craft improvements, bring money to the common fund and carry out various assignments: collecting debts, helping to finish a book about the most dangerous shooters of the Wild West and ensuring the safety of the right people.

You can, of course, run through the story, but why do this when you have a faithful horse, and there are a lot of marks on the map with interesting places? By the way, about the horses. They are all different, each with its own disposition. As in the real world, a horse must trust you. And the more she trusts, the more cool things you can do with her. Therefore, wash it, feed it, iron it and weigh it in compliments. And also decorate as you please: racing saddles, bright manes - local stables offer ample opportunities for tuning horses.

You can name the horse, but please don't call it Roach, think of something more original. After all, it is with her that you will spend most of your time. One of the few drawbacks of the game is the very long trips. There is fast movement here, but you also need to go to it. Turn on your cinematic camera to brighten up tedious races. With her, the game immediately turns into a Tarantino film.

It is a pleasure to ride with this view.

Once far from civilization, you can make a fire at any time to warm up, relax, create healing tonics and do the primordial Russian business: cooking barbecue. They shot a couple of deer in a nearby forest and immediately roasted them under different marinades.

In addition to scenic spots, you will constantly come across funny and sometimes even ridiculous characters. Sectarians, animal rights activists, artists, writers, alcoholics - and this is not the whole list. Meetings with them are truly amazing.

When you run out of ammo and food, check out local stores. Their mechanics are not like in ordinary games: I came to the merchant, chose what I needed from the menu and rode off into the sunset on the Roach. Everything is like in life. Looking for apples? First find them on the counter and only then buy them. Alternatively, the seller always has an authentic catalog of goods that migrated to the game straight from the days of the Wild West.

By the way, the hair in the game grows in real time, and you can always buy a special tonic to speed up the process. Just like in real life: if you want stylish sideburns, grow them first.

When you get bored of running around a huge map in search of adventure, it's time to explore what else the game can please us with. And the range of entertainment is huge. There are gambling games: dominoes, poker, the game of knives.

Instagram lovers have plenty to do, too. The protagonist carries the latest iPhone camera with him everywhere. You can photograph the world around, animals, people, and even take selfies. Try it, it's cool.

In every town there are cinemas that show film films. People come there in advance, watch movies and actually go home (I followed one). No dummies disappearing into thin air. The simulation of life in the game is outrageous.

When the wallet is empty, it's time to become a bounty hunter. Information about the wanted criminals is posted on the boards near the sheriff's building. Each poster is a separate story, the culmination of which is difficult to predict: someone will try to escape, someone will pay off, and someone will jump off a cliff, just not to be imprisoned. They can be felled immediately, but they pay more for the living. Yes, and it is curious to know how, for example, the story of a girl who stabbed all her husbands will end.

For fans of experiments, there are also more interesting classes. Absolutely everything here is built according to real physical laws. The grass sways, clothes get wet and, of course, footprints remain in the snow. How to use it, everyone will figure out for himself, but on the Internet people are already posting their discoveries.

One day I fell into a club, noticed a poker table, at which well-dressed gentlemen were sitting, and joined them. Having raised a good amount, I decided to completely rob new friends and, as is usually the case, drained all the money. I was pretty drunk, so I immediately climbed to knock them back. Imagine my surprise when the saloon turned into a real fight club: chairs were flying everywhere, the ladies were screaming in horror, and the men with smiles on their faces beat each other with relish. It all ended on the street when a huge bogai threw me out of the window. There I quickly showed him who is Khabib and who is McGregor, jumped on a horse and hid from the lawyers at the nearest river. True, in order not to suffer from constant harassment in the city later (the characters remember absolutely all your actions), you still need to pay a fine to the local treasury.

It is from such stories that the adventures of each player are built. And now is the time for you to go for yours. The game provides tools, but how to use them, choose for yourself. Whether you run through the story to meet the promised 60 hours, or find all the treasures, becoming the most famous cowboy in the Wild West - it's up to you.
