What if I choked on food, and there is no one nearby?
Oksana
Lifehacker has on this topic. If you have choked, proceed as follows:
- Try to calm down. Panic will only make matters worse.
- Cough as hard as possible. To make the cough worse, bend in half.
- If there is a mirror nearby, open your mouth, press your tongue with your finger and try to examine your throat.
- If you find a foreign object, try sliding it out of place with a sliding motion of your finger and then remove it.
And if you feel that you are suffocating, do the following:
- Find a hard, narrow object. For example, the back of a chair or the edge of a bathtub will do.
- Bend over so that your upper abdomen is exactly over the rigid rib of the chosen object.
- Relaxing your legs, lean on the object sharply.
