Samsung has unveiled Bixby alongside its new Galaxy S8 smartphone, which has a dedicated physical button to call the smart assistant. It looks like Bixby can be installed on older Samsung phones as well.

There is no such feature officially, but a user with the nickname takerhbkс has posted a basic guide to running Bixby on the XDA Developers forum and has attached all the necessary APKs.

To try out the smart assistant, you need to have a Samsung smartphone with Android 7.0, as well as download the proprietary launcher for the S8.

Instructions and installation files can be found here.

The assistant adds a schedule and other important information to the panel, which can be opened with a swipe on the home screen, helps to take selfies, can call contacts from the phone book and tells you where to buy photographed products.

True, not everyone who installed Bixby works flawlessly: there may be problems with the camera or speech recognition. And there is a suspicion that the detected installation files add only an information panel to the interface of your device, but not voice recognition and chips with a camera.

Samsung has no plans to make Bixby officially available on Google Play yet. But fortunately, this is not the only virtual assistant. Work is underway to make Google Assistant available to more Android Marshmallow and Nougat smartphones. And Google Play also has Microsoft's Cortana.
