How not to cover the sleeping place on the train, get free chess and extend the ticket due to illness - these and other tricks and rules that will come in handy on the road.
Tickets
- Did you get the wrong ticket? It's too early to worry. You will still be allowed on the train if there is no more than one wrong letter in your last name and one wrong number in your passport number.
- If you fall ill before your trip, you can renew your ticket with a hospital certificate.
- If you arrived at the station a couple of hours earlier than the departure, you can leave by train of the same direction, which runs earlier according to the schedule, if there are free seats in it. To do this, you need to contact the ticket office of the station to put a special mark on the ticket.
- Did you want to stretch your legs on the road? You have the right to take a break from your trip up to 10 days by getting off at any station. To do this, within three hours after getting off the train, mark the stop on the ticket at the railway ticket office. Just remember: when resuming your trip, a small surcharge may be required in accordance with the carrier's fares.
Accommodation
At your request, the conductor:
- is obliged to help you load and unload things from the train;
- will cover your sleeping place (according to Russian Railways standards, the linen must be clean and dry);
- will invite an employee of the dining car to accept an order for food;
- wakes you up at the appointed time;
- will replenish the missing hygiene products in the toilet (soap, toilet paper, paper towels).
If you are riding on the top bunk, alas, the suitcases will have to be lifted to the overhead luggage space. The space for luggage under the lower shelf is not divided in half, but mainly belongs to the passenger who bought the lower seat.
Children
- On long-distance trains, you can carry a child under 5 years old free of charge if he travels in the same seat with you. And there are special rates for children from 5 to 10 years old.
- Children under the age of 10 cannot travel on trains without an adult or teacher when traveling in an organized group.
- The child's age is determined on the day the trip starts.
Animals
- The travel of any animal other than a guide dog must be paid separately (a ticket will not cost more than a quarter of the cost of a regular human ticket for the same route). You also need to take documents for the animal with you: a veterinary passport and a health certificate.
- One person can carry no more than two small pets or birds.
- Animals are transported in boxes, cages or baskets, which are placed in places for hand luggage, and only in a compartment of a hard carriage. Pets cannot be accommodated in a reserved seat or soft compartments. And if you are carrying a large dog, you need to take a muzzle and a leash, as well as buy the entire compartment. The only exception is suburban trains, where a four-legged friend can be carried in the vestibule.
- Do not forget to clean up after your pet, this is your responsibility for the duration of the trip.
Tea, coffee, let's dance
- The friendly conductor already offers tea and coffee at least three times a day. But what you might not know: at your request, he will also replace your used state-of-the-art dishes with clean ones.
- Are you a vegetarian? In the luxury carriage, you will not only be fed, but will also replace meat dishes with vegetables and fruits.
- If the train is delayed for more than four hours, know that you must be provided with free meals. With a 12-hour delay, they will be fed twice, and if the bill went for a day - three times.
- At your request, the guide will give out chess, checkers or dominoes, as well as a brush for clothes and shoes free of charge.
- Be careful with noisy gatherings until the night: silence is maintained in the carriage at night (from 23:00 to 6:00).
For violation of public order, including in a state of alcoholic intoxication, you can be removed from the train and brought to administrative responsibility.
All these possibilities are provided for by the Russian Railways passenger service standard, the rules for the carriage of passengers by rail and the rules for the provision of services for carriage by rail.
