In short, the Jabra Sport Pulse is a $ 199 Bluetooth sports headphone that can track your heart rate while exercising from your auricle. Yes, these are expensive headphones that do their job so unexpectedly that there is simply no alternative to them. But about how they work and what opportunities they open to the user, read the review below.
A bit of performance characteristics:
- headphones weigh 17 g;
- are able to play music from a smartphone via Bluetooth;
- know how to control the phone (the iPhone in my case is the same as the stock ones);
- know how to send heart rate readings via Bluetooth Smart;
- support Dolby® Sound (requires an app from Jabra);
- they know how to instantly tune in to work with the phone using NFC technology: just touch the phone, and everything is ready (checked on SGS5 - everything worked like a clock).
Highlights of the Jabra Sport Pulse
Before Sport Pulse, my usage pattern looked like this: I run with a Polar V800 watch (it supports external sensors via Bluetooth Smart), and I also listen to music from the iPhone 5s on standard Apple headphones. I measure my heart rate constantly during running and cycling workouts with a chest heart rate monitor from the same Polar. This is the configuration. The important thing is that I don't need a music clock, and I don't need a running app like Runkeeper, Strava or Endomondo on my phone. Music should be on your phone, and workouts should be on your watch.
Headphones solve this problem. The fact is that they know how to work with both a telephone and a clock. It looks like this. You connect them to the phone, and they start receiving music from it. Then you connect them to your watch, and they say in your ears: "Bluetooth Smart connected". The watch now takes readings from the Jabra when you start a workout.
This is what the result looks like:
It is noteworthy that the data on the heart rate from the headphones can be simultaneously transmitted to the watch, as in my case, and to the phone application, if you need it. BTS provides such an opportunity. As one of the probable patterns, you take heart rate data during home workouts on the watch, and use the phone to display the heart rate on the TV. In short, the field of application of the technology depends only on your desires and does not limit you in any way.
Completion and quality
The earbuds come with a USB charging cable (microUSB), silicone earplugs and earhooks in four sizes, and a pouch to store it all.
Thanks to the abundance of sizes, the headphones are suitable for both teenagers and old people with big ears. To show the dimensions of the earbuds and inserts, I used a microSIM card and a € 2 coin.
The headphone battery is hidden somewhere in them. There is no "battery neck kit" like other manufacturers has. Jabra fits everything in 17 grams!
And this is what a heart rate monitor looks like, which records the heartbeat from the left auricle. Perhaps this is some kind of optical technology. Why else would they “see” our ear?:)
Charging is on the right "ear". A full charge takes 3-4 hours.
Music control is the same as on standard headphones: volume, stop / pause. On the left "ear" there is an additional button for answering calls and redialing the last number.
By the way, the manufacturer claims that the headphones are not afraid of rain and dirt. The standard for mud, water, dust, sand, and shock is said to be taken from the US Army.
Built towards US military rain, shock, sand and dust standards.
Output
The Jabra Sport Pulse is a totally unexpected solution that works simply and without a hitch. You can compare this model with other bluetooth earbuds and choose them because of the price. But if you don't like the chest strap, then you simply have no choice - you have to consider buying a PULSE. If we talk about the quality of sound and assembly, then I would compare them here with Powebeats 2 - the price, assembly level and configuration are the same. But ear pulse is cool, and still a bit of a luxury.
Only the iPhone 6 Plus has survived so far
