A year and a half ago, I was lucky enough to live in San Francisco for a couple of months. Then I was shocked by the cost of renting an apartment in any part of it. The harsh truth is that most of those who travel there on business rent a bedroom there - a room with a bed in an apartment with several bedrooms. We, being real life hackers, got out. Rented a three-bedroom apartment near Caltrain (the train that takes you to Silicon Valley) in the Mission area for $ 4,000 a month and rented one of them for $ 150 on AirBNB. This bedroom was 100% occupied and we still had some great Californian wine left over. If you are not so flexible in cohabitation with outsiders, then the picture below will help you get an idea of how much life in this stunning city will cost you.

This infographic was compiled using data from the RadPad service. Consideration was given to one-bedroom apartments located half a mile from the BART metro stations that connect the surrounding communities. Of course, living outside of San Francisco itself is cheaper. But, in addition to the obvious savings, you will receive the proud title of bridge and tunnel people from local snobs, which in translation means roughly “people who come to our cozy town through bridges and tunnels”.:)

Consider this knowledge when planning your startup outings, moving on a work contract, and when thinking about why a junior iOS developer in San Francisco is asking for $ 140,000!
