With your own proxy server, you are not afraid of any blocking on the Internet.
The life hacker has already talked about how to buy a virtual server (VPS) and configure your VPN to bypass Internet blocking. But VPN works for all programs that have internet access. If you want traffic to be redirected to another server only in the browser, create your own proxy.
Considering the prohibition of anonymizers and VPN, which can be applied in practice at any time, having your own proxy server will guarantee your freedom on the Internet.
How to create a proxy
How to choose and buy a VPS is described in detail in the article on raising a VPN. We will not repeat ourselves and proceed directly to setting up a proxy server.
Download and install the Putty utility. On the Session tab, write down the IP address that was in the letter when you created the VPS.
Go to the Tunnels tab under SSH. Enter 3128 in the Source Port line. Select Auto and Dynamic. Click Add.
Open the Connection tab and set the time to 100 seconds to avoid dropping the connection.
Click Open to connect. Enter the username and password that the hoster sent in the letter after creating the VPS.
It remains to configure the proxy in the browser. Let's see how to do this using Google Chrome as an example. Open your browser settings, call advanced settings and find the proxy server settings in the "System" section.
In the "Configure local network settings" field, click on the "Network settings" button. Check the boxes "Automatic detection" and "Use for local connections". Click Advanced. In the SOCKS line, enter the localhost address and port 3128.
Check your computer's IP address to make sure the browser is connecting to sites through a proxy. In other browsers, setup is done in a similar way. Lifehacker also told how to set up a proxy on computers, tablets and phones with different systems.
How to run proxies on individual sites
To use the proxy server only on certain sites, install the FoxyProxy extension in your browser.
Open extension settings and click Add New Proxy. On the Proxy Details tab, enter the IP address and port number that you previously registered in Putty. Check the SOCKS Proxy option.
Go to the URL Patterns tab and add masks for the sites that should use proxies. To add a site mask, click Add New Patterns, enter its address with asterisks on both sides: for example, * site.com *.
When the extension is enabled, only those sites whose masks you have included in the list will be displayed through the proxy. The rest of the addresses will be opened without a proxy.
It is possible not to create a list in FoxyProxy, but to use the "Bypass Runet Blocks" extension. It contains a list of "Anti-Censorship", which covers most of the sites blocked in Russia.
Click on the extension icon on the taskbar, open the "My proxies" tab. Check the box "Use YOUR OWN proxy", enter the IP address and port number.
How to save a session
In order for the proxy server to work, you must constantly start a Putty session. You can save the settings so that you only have to enter the password to connect.
Run Putty. Configure the connection as shown above and go to the Data tab under the Connection section. Write down the name for automatic authorization: usually this is root, but the hoster can assign something else in the letter.
Go to the Session tab, enter any name in the Saved Sessions field and click Save.
Your connection will be saved in the list of sessions.
The next time you start Putty, select it, click Load, then - Open to establish a connection and enter the password from the server that the hoster sent in the letter.
