To protect your account from hacking, go to the settings via the social networking site. Find the "Security" tab and in the "Login Confirmation" section click on the "Connect" button. Once set up, you will be able to log into your account using an SMS code or one of ten backup codes. You can also connect a third-party authentication app.

It is recommended that you link your mailbox to your account in advance, since the recovery function after setting up two-factor authentication will become unavailable.

The easiest way to enable two-factor authentication on all Google services is to run the setup from this link. You will be asked to sign in to your account, enter your phone number and choose how to receive verification codes - text messages or calls.

As with Facebook, you can set up notifications that simply ask you to select "yes" or "no" when you try to sign in. You can also generate a security key for the USB stick.

The page has a function for generating backup codes for offline access. Google will offer ten codes at once, each of which is valid only once.

You can also log into Instagram through a browser, but you can set up two-factor authentication only through the mobile application. Go to your profile, open the menu using the button in the upper right corner and go to the settings. In the "Privacy and Security" section, you will see a "Two-Factor Authentication" button. Click on it and select a protection method - SMS or an authentication application.

Through the menu in the mobile application or in the browser version, enter the settings and select the "Security and Login" item. In the "Use two-factor authentication" section, you can register a phone number, which will receive a code every time you try to log into a social network, or bind an authentication application.

Here you can also set up a security key to enter using a USB stick or NFC beacon. And for trips abroad, where there is no Internet access, recovery codes are perfect. They can also be generated in this section.

If you prefer not to use additional security measures every time you log in from the same device, you can add it to the list of authorized logins.

Open the application settings via the menu at the top right. In the "Account" section there is a "Two-step verification" button. Click on it. The messenger will ask you to come up with a six-digit code, confirm it and add an email address to reset your PIN code and protect your account.

It is very important to enter a valid email address, because the service will not allow you to reconfirm your identity if you have not used WhatsApp for more than seven days and have forgotten the code.

If you are using iOS 10.3 or higher, then go to settings, click on your name and select "Password and Security". This will enable you to enable additional protection: the system will send a text message with a code every time you try to log in.

If you have iOS 10.2 or earlier, you can find two-factor authentication under iCloud → Apple ID → Password & Security.

Two-factor authentication works on all types of devices, but is enabled only through the web version of the service. Also in the "Security" section you can find a list of all devices from which you logged into your account by clicking "Show sessions". If you see an unfamiliar smartphone or computer, you can safely delete it.

Authentication in other services

For anything else not listed above, we recommend using authenticator apps. They serve as repositories of codes that can be accessed offline. Among the most popular options are Authy and Google Authenticator.

You just need to scan the QR code of the account of any service, and this account will be saved in the application. The next time you enter the service, protected by two-factor authentication, you will need to open the application and enter the generated code.
