The sequel to "The Avengers" will be released on April 25, 2019. In the meantime, movie bloggers and fans while away the time, making assumptions and collecting information from official and unofficial sources. What is happening now in the MCU and how will the fate of the heroes develop in the next film? In case you haven't had time to watch Infinity War, there will be one big spoiler next.

Who died and who survived in the "War of Infinity"

The previous part of the epic about the confrontation between superheroes and the mad titan Thanos ended with the supervillain finally collecting parts of a powerful artifact, the Gloves of Infinity. And he was not afraid to use it - by snapping his fingers, he destroyed half of the living beings in the Universe, believing that in this way he was restoring the world balance. Superheroes also got it, every second of which crumbled to dust.

It seems that after such large-scale and tragic events, everything will not be the same. However, Marvel wouldn't be themselves if they hadn't found a way to roll everything back with minimal losses and give the Avengers the opportunity to save the world once again. New films about Black Panther and Spider-Man have already been announced, as well as TV series about Bucky Barnes and Loki.

Here are who disappeared along with half of the inhabitants of the Universe: Bucky Barnes, Wanda (Scarlet Witch), Falcon, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Wasp, Nick Fury and Maria Hill, as well as all the Guardians of the Galaxy except Rocket. Also, even before the epic snap, Thanos killed Heimdall, Loki, Vision and his adopted daughter Gamora.

Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Warrior (James Rhodes), Wakandians Okoye and M'Baku, Rocket, Nebula, Ant-Man survived.

What will the plot of the film be

How the disintegrated victims of Thanos will be rescued

It can be said for sure that the surviving heroes will unite to save the friends and allies trapped inside the Soul Stone. The question is how exactly they will be returned from the afterlife.

In the comics The Infinity Gauntlet, July - December 1991, superheroes had to turn to cosmic entities for help - Galactus, Eternity and the Living Tribunal, who felt that Thanos was unworthy of the newfound power (the titan himself came to the same opinion as a result). Mephisto and the subject of the titan's sighs, Lady Death, also turned against him. As a result, Nebula managed to get the Infinity Gauntlet, waiting for the moment when Thanos will take on astral form and the artifact will be left unattended. The halved universe was returned to its normal state.

By the way, Marvel recently published the book “Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos: Titan Consumed by Barry League, which tells about Thanos's search for the Infinity Stones. It mentions that the artifacts are being watched by Celestials and even more powerful and mysterious creatures. Recall that Celestials are cosmic super-creatures of enormous power. The celestial was, in particular, Ego, the father of Star-Lord, who attempted to consume the Earth and was defeated in the second Guardians of the Galaxy.

The films do not fully repeat the events of the comics, but it is still possible that some powerful entities will come to the aid of the surviving superheroes.

It is possible that Captain Marvel will play a key role in saving the temporarily dead - this very gifted heroine knows how to control various types of energy. It is also known about her that she will definitely appear in the sequel to "The Avengers". True, for this, the heroine must somehow be introduced into the film. Her solo picture, which will also be released next spring, should prepare the ground for this.

Perhaps the plot will follow the path of time travel. This is supported, for example, by footage from the set in which Loki appears. However, it may just be a flashback: the same footage shows Thor with long hair, although he said goodbye to his hair in the movie "Thor: Ragnarok". That being said, Tony Stark has an M. O. R. G program. (in English - B. A. R. F.), designed to recreate the past and work through trauma. Perhaps, having improved the technology, Iron Man will be able to really influence the past events.

Another option for saving all life, associated with travel in time and space, concerns Scott Lang - Ant-Man. According to the head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige, the characters of the new "Avengers" will be waiting for adventures in the quantum dimension. At the time of the end of his solo film, Ant ended up in the quantum world, shrinking to the size of subatomic particles, and stuck there. In this dimension, time does not exist, as in the ordinary universe. And, maybe, it will be possible to rewind events backwards, in some way using quantum laws.

Will Gamora, Loki and Vision return

There is almost no doubt about the return of those who suffered from the “click of Infinity”. With the heroes who died in the "usual" way, and were not disintegrated by the will of the artifact, everything is less clear. Perhaps some of them actually died forever. Although everyone has a chance to reappear among the living.

In favor of the resurrection of Gamora, which Thanos threw off the cliff, says that there are still the third "Guardians of the Galaxy" ahead, which are difficult to imagine without the green-skinned warrior. On the other hand, the fate of the third "Guardians" remains uncertain after James Gunn left the director's chair. So the Guardians in general and Gamora in particular can get stuck somewhere between the worlds, while the company decides the fate of their solo album.

The audience's favorite Loki still has his own series awaiting him. However, his events may well unfold in the past. According to one of the fan theories on Reddit, Loki will resurrect Hel. (She herself died in Thor: Ragnarok, but that doesn't seem to bother anyone. She is, after all, the goddess of death.) Another Reddit user noticed that Loki was holding a weapon in his left hand before his death. The god of lies and deceit does this only when he uses illusions. This means that Loki in his last scene is not real, and the cunning ace somehow managed to avoid death.

Vision is an android at all, so talking about death in relation to him is not entirely correct. He died because Thanos tore the Stone of Mind from his forehead. Therefore, the character can be "repaired" by simply inserting the stone back.

What will happen to Thanos

If Thanos is still alive at the end of Infinity War, the Avengers will have to engage him in the final battle. However, what actually happened to titanium is an open question.

The titan's plan was to randomly destroy half of the living creatures. But do the rules of the game apply to everyone, and could Thanos disintegrate himself at the same time so that everything would be fair? Then it turns out that the titan has disappeared, and the hut in which we see him for the last time is inside the Soul Stone.

Another option is that Thanos is alive, but his powers are undermined. In "War of Infinity" Thor acquired a weapon capable of killing Thanos (Stormbreaker, which in Russian localization was called "Thunder-Ax") and stuck it in Thanos's chest. Which did not stop him snapping his fingers. After that, the titan briefly finds himself in a strange place, where he meets little Gamora. If this is not just a vision, it turns out that Thanos died briefly, but returned to the world of the living with the help of a glove and was transported to a hut on an unknown planet.

This partly corresponds to the events of The Infinity Gauntlet, July - December 1991, where the defeated Thanos went to a distant planet to lead the quiet life of an ordinary farmer there and think about his actions. The only difference is that at the end of the "War of Infinity" Thanos won. However, he looks ill - either the glove or the ax caused him great harm. Perhaps his health is already undermined to the point that he is slowly dying.

Who will be the new main villain

Considering that in the fourth part of "The Avengers" Thanos will still die or retire, the film will need a new supervillain. Or, at least, its announcement.

According to the assumption of film blogger Jeremy Conrad, who periodically shares insider information and makes good predictions on his website, the annihilus planetary destroyer will become the new villain of the Marvel universe, and the plot will be based on the comic strip "Annihilation" ("Annihilation"). Konrad refers to a reliable, unnamed insider source. In his opinion, the fourth film will be called "The Avengers: Annihilation".

Annihilus is a malevolent, insect-like humanoid with immense powers that wears armor created by the technology of the Tiannan space race. In the comics, he rules over the Negative Zone, a parallel world with negatively charged matter, and seeks to conquer and destroy other worlds. Perhaps in the new "Avengers" Annihilus and his fleet will appear from another dimension due to the fact that the Infinity Gauntlet upset the world energy balance.

Compared to this villain, Thanos is not devoid of a peculiar nobility: he acts within the framework of his system of values, proceeding from what he considers to be the common good and harmony. Whereas the main goal of Annihilus is to destroy life in the Universe and remain the only creature. Therefore, under certain circumstances, Thanos has a chance to team up with the Avengers against a common enemy. By the way, the Infinity Gauntlet is unlikely to work against Annihilus, since he comes from another dimension.

But these are all just assumptions. Official information about the new villain has not yet been reported. According to Kevin Feige, the title of the new part will contain a spoiler - it will make it clear what to expect in the film. So it is being kept under wraps for now.

Will there be a cameo by Stan Lee

All movie comics fans know why they don't have to leave the theater when the credits start. However, they wrote about "Avengers 4" that it makes no sense to include a scene after the credits, so as not to spoil the impression of the ending, which is planned to be very powerful. If this picture really sums up under all the films in the series filmed so far, the ending should evoke strong emotions.

To date, it has been confirmed that Stan Lee, who recently passed away, made a cameo appearance in the film. The directors of the Russo brothers spoke about this a few months ago in an interview with BBC radio. According to some filmmakers, the best solution would be to place Stan Lee's "accidental appearances" right in the scene after the credits - to pay back the memory and leave the audience with a sense of light sadness.

The trailer for the film will provide Marvel fans with material for new theories and assumptions about the events and details of the film, or even reveal the main plot. Considering that the Infinity War promotional video came out in November last year, news can be expected soon.
