What to do if paint gets on the windshield and interferes with the view

Windshield paint can be removed in two ways:

  • If the paint has dried, then it can be removed with a plastic spatula, as with a home window when painting. The easiest way to remove residues is with a cloth soaked in solvent.
  • If you can't remove the paint with a plastic spatula, try cleaning the surface with a metal or razor blade, but very carefully, making movements parallel to the glass, otherwise you can scratch it.

At service stations, paint is removed from glass in the same way, and from painted surfaces by abrasive polishing.

How is abrasive polishing done?

The procedure consists of the following steps:

  • washing;
  • abrasive polishing;
  • repeated washing;
  • soft polishing.

For washing, auto chemicals are used to rid the car of various contaminants, including chemical ones.

Abrasive polishing removes a few microns of the top layer of paintwork, thereby destroying small cracks and defects on the body. For the procedure, special pastes are used:

  • coarse, removing scratches;
  • medium-grained, leveling paint layer;
  • fine-grained, removes dullness and circular streaks.

After polishing, the car must be sent to the car wash again to remove the remaining particles of abrasive pastes and paintwork, and then dry thoroughly.

This is followed by the stage of soft polishing, which is also performed using special tools. It results in additional protection of the metal from interaction with oxygen and giving shine.

To carry out polishing, you must have a polishing machine with adjustable rotation speed, at least two types of paste, a large amount of clean water, two types of foam discs and a degreasing agent.

Types of pastes:

  • coarse abrasive material for initial polishing;
  • fine-grained base for removing small scratches;
  • finishing polish that gives shine.

What else you need to know about removing paint from bodywork

Old paint is practically not removed from rubber and structural parts of the body, the damaged element must be replaced.

If your car gets paint that is used when applying road markings or painting bridges and fences on highways, then there is a high probability that the only possible way to solve the problem is painting the element, since the chemical composition of these enamels corrodes not only the top layer of the car's paintwork, but and a second layer of pigment.

Is it possible to remove paint stains from a car on your own

All industrial paints and varnishes have the so-called adhesion property, that is, adhesion to the surface due to mechanical or chemical action on the plane. Therefore, if paint gets on the body or glass of the car, it will not be possible to remove it quickly and easily.

At home, you can try to remove small drops of paint and varnish materials with gasoline, acetone or soapy water with car shampoo. Paint stains on glass can be removed with a snow scraper or gently pry off with a razor blade. But all such actions are fraught with worn paint on the car body and scratches on the glass. If the car is doused with paint and stains remain on the surface, it is best to contact a car service.

How to get rid of paint in service centers

In specialized service centers, stains of paint and varnish materials are removed painlessly to cover the car body, since special means and tools are used for this.

To remove a small amount of paint, craftsmen use a special plastic scraper or abrasive clay, which, due to its properties, can gently separate solid particles from the surface of the car.

Large stains are removed chemically. A previously prepared body or individual parts are immersed in a caustic soda solution heated to 75-80 degrees for half an hour, then for a certain time in hot water, the temperature of which is at least 45 degrees. After carrying out the chemical treatment, the remains of the solution from the surface of the car are washed off with a jet of cold water.

How to keep yourself safe

To protect yourself from unforeseen expenses, for example, if your car is covered with paint, it is enough to purchase a CASCO policy, which provides for such a risk as illegal actions of third parties. Almost every CASCO policy includes this risk.

If, when purchasing a CASCO policy, you bought the option "emergency commissioner for any insurance event", then this person comes and looks at the nature of the damage, estimates the cost of repair and, in accordance with the terms of your policy, either calls the district police officer or issues a referral for repair …

If you do not have this option or the emergency commissioner leaves only for an accident, then you need to call the district police officer, get a certificate in form No. 3 or a protocol / decree on an administrative (criminal) offense. And then, according to the usual scheme for reporting an insured event, act in accordance with the instructions issued when purchasing the policy, observing the deadlines for reporting an insured event.

What to do if the insurance company evades payments

In this case, it is necessary to file a claim in court. Determine the amount you are going to collect by including all requirements: insurance compensation, examination costs, legal services, postage in connection with the payment, and others. If the cost of the claim is not more than 50,000 rubles, then it must be submitted to the magistrate court, if it exceeds this amount, then to the district one.
