A major update to one of the best alternative email clients for Mac brought many innovations and improvements to users. Despite this, you do not need to pay for the update - the owners of the previous version will get it for free.
Airmail has a well-deserved reputation as a universal tool for working with mail: flexible settings, support for multiple accounts, integration with services. After the release of the iOS version, it became almost perfect. The only thing that was upsetting was the absence of several new features of the mobile version, which even slightly surpassed the desktop one in terms of capabilities. With the release of Airmail 3 for Mac, everything fell into place. Let's try to figure out why the new version of the mail client is so good.
Smart folders and VIP
The familiar sorting functions from the built-in Mail are now available in Airmail. Smart folders allow you to set specific search and filter options for messages from the general stream for quick access to them from the sidebar. VIP is almost the same, but not about messages, but about contacts. Conveniently, you can view VIP-correspondence either separately for each interlocutor, or in its entirety. On iOS, all of this is also there and works in a similar way.
Customizable menus, shortcuts, gestures and folders
In the new version of the application, interaction with emails and access to common functions has become much more convenient. In addition to the familiar swipe gestures, there are customizable hotkeys and the ability to add four favorite actions directly to the toolbar.
There are two global shortcuts for composing a new letter and showing the Airmail window, which you can set at your discretion. If you have a large number of accounts with chaos on the sidebar, customizable folders will help you to cope with it. You can leave only the most necessary, and hide the rest.
Delayed sending of letters
If you are communicating with colleagues who work in other time zones, then you will definitely like the function of delayed sending of letters. It works only for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail services, allowing you to schedule the sending of already composed emails at any time of any day.
Integration with Asana, Trello
One of the main advantages of Airmail is its integration with popular services. At the moment there are more than 20 of them, including Dropbox, Wunderlist and others. Now, the equally popular Asana and Trello have been added to them, and Airmail will automatically fill in the fields when creating a new task. For example, in Trello, the subject line will become the title of the card, and the text will become its description.
Advanced sync with Airmail for iOS
The mobile version of Airmail was originally integrated with the desktop, but some of the features didn't work seamlessly. Now, thanks to cloud sync, any changes instantly appear on all your devices. Airmail 3 learned to sync rules, smart folders and VIP contacts.
All the rest
In total, there are about 40 changes in the new version of Airmail, and it is difficult to tell in detail about all in one article. Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are many less visible but equally important features. This includes an updated interface for correspondence, and a button to unsubscribe from mailings, and a new attachment menu, and much more. The full list of changes can be found on the official website.
For Airmail 2 owners, the updated version of the application will be a pleasant bonus, and for everyone else it will be a reason to think about buying. With an arsenal of new features, Airmail 3 stands out from the crowd, especially given its relatively affordable price tag.
