5 Things The SpongeBob SquarePants Characters Taught Us

The animated series SpongeBob SquarePants became popular for several reasons. Firstly, thanks to the abundance of jokes and abstract humor. Secondly, due to the fact that the characters are very similar to ordinary people.

Sea inhabitants differ in character, behavior, flaws, but most of them manage to coexist and even make friends.

There is a theory that the main characters personify the seven deadly sins. And it was even confirmed in the audio commentaries to one of the editions of the cartoon on DVD. But of course, this does not need to be taken too seriously. This is not about biblical references, but simply flaws and typical behavior.

Therefore, you should not look for religious topics here. But you can take lessons.

1. SpongeBob: kindness and optimism save in any situation

The main character of the cartoon is naive, sometimes annoying. But at the same time, SpongeBob is completely harmless and tries to maintain a positive attitude in any situation. He often gets into ridiculous troubles, but is invariably chosen from them as the winner. And most often it is thanks to optimism.

SpongeBob is open-minded and always looking for new experiences. In the very theory of deadly sins, he is credited with lust, but not in a sexual sense, but as a strong desire for something. And in his case, it is a constant pursuit of the unknown. Which is not so bad.

2. Patrick: stupidity attracts trouble

The best friend of the protagonist - starfish Patrick - is lazy, but very charming. So much so that many viewers love him even more than SpongeBob himself.

Patrick has the literal superpower to get into wacky situations. And the whole point is that he is frankly stupid and rarely thinks before doing something. Patrick is saved by the same positive and kindness. Well, and the fact that this is just a children's animated series. But the energy would sometimes be worth holding back, leaving room for reflection.

3. Squidward: anger gets in the way of being happy

Octopus Squidward is angry literally everything around. He is Mr. Krabs' cashier, but he hates both the boss and his job. He lives next door to SpongeBob and Patrick, but believes that they constantly interfere with him. He tries to play the clarinet and gets angry when he fails.

We can say that Squidward looks calm only when he is sleeping. The rest of the time, something annoys him, be it the fun of others or workdays.

Agree, there are a lot of such people. They believe that the whole world deliberately prevents them from living. As a result, they are lonely and never rejoice. But they could well manage anger.

4. Mr. Krabs and Plankton: greed spoils talented people

These two characters are constantly at war with each other, but they are very similar. Once, Krabs and Plankton were even friends, but a quarrel and envy made them part. And after that, the first one is obsessed with money, and the second applies all his knowledge to steal the crabsburger recipe. At the same time, both could use their knowledge and energy for the good.

Plankton is an excellent scientist. But since he thinks only about the competitor's secret, nothing sensible comes out of his inventions.

Krabs himself could be an excellent leader, and he even sometimes shows respect for SpongeBob and even Squidward. But everything is spoiled by selfishness and greed. The cashier is trying to quit, and attempts to save money often turn into the danger of going broke.

And here it is worth considering. If these two had forgotten about past troubles, overcome their vices and again ran the business together, perhaps both of them and everyone around them would be better.

5. Sandy Cheeks: Differences Don't Interfere With Friendship

Sandy differs from all other characters primarily in that she is a land animal. The squirrel cannot breathe under water, she has to constantly wear a spacesuit, and in her house there is a special pump for pumping water.

In addition, Sandy can be called the standard of all-round development: she explores the marine fauna and invents, is engaged in weightlifting, martial arts, extreme sports and rodeos.

But all this does not prevent her from being simple and good-natured and being friends with the narrow-minded SpongeBob and Patrick.
