Books that everyone should read, regardless of age and nationality.
Hayao Miyazaki, author of such famous anime as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle, has compiled a list of favorite children's books for his 60th birthday. The master of Japanese animation recommends that everyone read them.
During his student years, Miyazaki was a member of the children's literature club, where they read mostly Western books. This may explain why there are so few Eastern authors on the list.
