It only takes seven minutes to fully immerse yourself in work in the morning. Before you get to work, try the following steps and you will see for yourself how your productivity and attitude will change for the better. You are ready?
Before you start: prepare
First you need to find a quiet place. A tip for those who work in open space offices: this is not your workplace. The car will not work either - there are too many distractions around. Most likely, it will be more convenient in the foyer or on the balcony. You can arrive early so that no one interferes. You will also need a notebook or notebook to keep track of (make sure you have a pen with you). And of course it will take hours. Otherwise, how can you keep track of the time and be sure that you have met exactly seven minutes.
First minute: clear your mind
We are not going to delve into religious matters, arrange sermons, or encourage everyone to meditate. But it is vital for every person on the planet who has to work to follow this well-known truth. You need to clear your mind. Put aside a phone with a lot of inbox or an iPad that you don't let go of. You don't need them for the next seven minutes. To clear your head of thoughts means to show up for work, try to forget about household chores and catch your breath.
Second minute: breathe a little
Stress and tension can be dealt with in a number of ways. But in any case, deep breathing is calming and helps to focus. Keeping track of your breathing is helpful throughout your workday. And at the beginning of the day, such a warm-up will help stop the flow of thoughts and direct it in the right direction. Just sit still and breathe.
Minutes 3 through 6: Take notes and draw
I write in my notebook all day long: as soon as I wake up and have a cup of coffee, until the moment when I have to go to bed. Including at meetings and conferences. But what you have to do now has nothing to do with taking notes or a personal journal. As soon as you arrive at work, write down the first five thoughts that come into your head in your notebook. Draw them as sketches or doodles. This is a way to prioritize, decide what is important to you and what is secondary. Just do not get hung up on the design, rather focus on your thoughts.
Seventh Minute: Analyze
After you take a few notes, look at the time and make sure that you have time to commit everything exactly one minute before the end. Now you can start analyzing. Review your notes a second time. Think about what you wrote about and why. Pick only one item from your list in the last 30 seconds and focus on that. For example, if you’ve made a cursory note that you need to finish your report, focus on that task and think about how you’re going to tackle it today.
That's all. Seven minutes. We advise you to follow this simple plan every day: getting in the mood for work and getting involved in business becomes much easier, as well as choosing the highest priority task. Try this technique for at least a week. And the results will pleasantly surprise you.
