A whole generation of children has appeared who will wipe the nose of any parent. Meet the Centennials. These people will be adults tomorrow. You won't have time to blink, but they will take over the world. We figure out who they are, what is their difference from previous generations and how to learn how to interact with them.
Explain already what kind of hype with generations?
The generational theory was described in 1991 by Neil Howe and William Strauss. According to this theory, generations replace each other every 20-25 years. Recently, the generation that follows the millennials has taken shape - the centennials, they are also called generation Z. Perhaps for the first time in history, children are so different from their parents.
Who are the Centennials?
These are people who were born after 1996 or after 2000 (according to various sources). The scatter in dates has appeared because there is little research so far. The Centennials are still young, but they cannot be confused with anyone.
How are they different from other generations?
This is the first generation to be born in the internet age. Centennials do not remember what life was like without gadgets, and spend more than 8 hours a day with smartphones and tablets. Every step they take, they have apps that they use as naturally as they breathe. Generation Z does not divide the world into digital and real, their life smoothly flows to the screen and back.
How has technology affected the Centennial?
Centennials love to communicate on the Internet, and anonymously: they prefer social networks in which they can hide. This is not Twitter, but Snapchat, from which messages disappear. This is the first generation to grow up in a multicultural environment. Centennials do not care where the interlocutor was born and what he looks like. Perhaps this is the most tolerant and calm generation.
They are immune to advertising, built-in ad block. They are so used to banner ads and messages that they may not pay attention to them, and for an advertisement to interest them, there must be something really interesting about it.
Minus - centennials do not like to concentrate for a long time. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is common among children and adolescents. Therefore, Gen Z prefers to watch rather than read. They need to capture as much information as possible in a short time.
Why are they so inconsiderate? Are they dumber?
No. Centennials have learned to embrace technology and are accustomed to cross-cutting. In their head, every paragraph of the textbook is riddled with hyperlinks, as in Wikipedia. In addition, they are used to thinking globally, because they instantly receive information from all over the world. They want to make discoveries, they love research and development.
Yes, centennials often switch attention, but therefore they make decisions faster. Generation Z doesn't like going back to the same question multiple times.
What can they do?
This is the generation that prefers to see. When communicating on the Web, centennials use emojis, smiles, pictures. And they know how to hook the audience. Teens know exactly what laws the information lives by and when to post a picture on Instagram in order to collect more likes. Little things, say? Now imagine what will happen when these teenagers with a flair for the audience enter the market. Past generations in flight.
Do they value anything other than likes?
They value safety like no one else. Since this is a generation that has grown up in an era of terrorist attacks and economic crises, the centennials want peace and prosperity. They don't like disposable items, they want to buy something that will last a long time. It is fashionable to be among them.
Centennials are very sober about how to succeed. Millennials dream that the whole world will notice how beautiful and wonderful they are. Centennials have no such illusions. They are going to work hard and earn money: 72% of graduates are thinking about entrepreneurship.
Centennials are not rebellious teenagers. They even take sex more responsibly. WHO speaks of a decrease in the number of teenage pregnancies worldwide, and in the United States this indicator is now generally the lowest in the last 50 years.
They do not want to destroy the system, they are going to slowly and surely make the world a better place. Maybe it's teenage romance. But if you remember the theory, then they already have the main views.
Is it possible to establish contact with the centenaries?
Firstly, for them everything needs to be visualized, any information should be visual.
Secondly, everything needs to be done quickly. Speed is more important than ever. If you are used to coordinating every poster and every post on social media for two months, you have lost.
Third, do viral ads. Centennials love to share interesting things, but quickly forget about it. Learn to stand out.
Fourthly, they like to buy, but prefer to shop online, and go online from mobile devices. Work with them through such channels.
Why should I learn to work with centennials?
Each generation is a specific target audience. If you have to work with clients, then you interact in a broad sense precisely with generations.
Centennials are an unusual generation. We cannot understand how they combine love of shopping and minimalism, education and hyperactivity, visual thinking and built-in ad block. And they can. Who after that will say that children are getting worse?
