As a rule, we tell you about ways to replace unhealthy high-calorie snacks with healthier alternatives, but one of the exceptions will be the period of the largest festival for lovers of foam - Oktoberfest. There is no need to go to Munich to celebrate, just stock up on your favorite drink, good company and a few of the simplest and most popular pub snacks.
Simple pretzels
The most time consuming recipe on the list is the pretzel recipe, but don't worry, we've simplified it a lot too.
To prepare pretzels, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water and add a mixture of flour and salt to them. We decided to complement the classic German appetizer with Italian additions - olives and dried rosemary. We put them at the very beginning of cooking along with flour.
Combine the yeast solution with flour and additives, knead the dough.
We roll a sausage about 5 cm in diameter out of it. Cut the sausage into 10 equal portions and instead of fiddling with pretzels for a long time, in the form of which we are used to eating pretzels, we form simple balls of dough and leave them to come up for half an hour.
Over time, we put dishes with water on the fire, and as soon as the liquid reaches a boil, we dilute a little brown sugar and soda in it. Boil the balls in a boiling soda solution until they rise, about a minute, and then put them on parchment and set to bake in an oven preheated to 230 degrees for 13-15 minutes or until browning.
Onion rings
The second appetizer - the most budget item on the menu of any pub - is onion rings. Ours will not only drink beer, but also cook on its basis.
Cut the onion into rings about 5 mm thick, put the oil to heat and proceed to the beer batter. To prepare the latter, it is enough to beat the ice foam with flour, a generous portion of salt, dried thyme and ground paprika.
Dip the onion rings into the batter with a fork, drain the excess batter, and then deep-fry the snack until browned.
Cheese sticks
We saved the favorite of many for the final: cheese sticks in a crispy breading, which should certainly be served immediately after roasting.
Cut your favorite hard cheese into cubes, dip the cubes into a beaten egg with milk and roll in breadcrumbs. We chose the spicy pita bread, which we cooked for. After the first layer of breading, re-dip the sticks in the egg and roll again in the bread crumbs. Rebreading is a guarantee that the entire cheese block is evenly coated, which means that the melted cheese does not leak out during frying.
Heat the oil, put the sticks in it and fry for no more than a minute.
As a result, we get a wonderful beer plate, to which you can serve one (or more) of ours, or choose your own favorite as a dip.
