This year I saw CrossFit in his homeland, and he opened up to me from new sides. Here's how I share my experiences and how high-intensity functional training has evolved into a culture that transforms and connects people.
This year, my recent dream has come true - to see the Reebok CrossFit Games finals live. This is a competition for which athletes from all over the world are selected, participating first in an open online tournament. The best go to regional competitions, and the cream goes to Carson, where, under the hot Californian sun, they fight for the title of the most prepared person in the world. I saw CrossFit in his homeland, and he opened up to me from new sides.
Preparing for the unknown
Standing in the roaring stands, I watched the gladiator fights and the Olympic Games at the same time. The variety of exercises and the level of training of the participants is such that you can never be sure that the one who started to lead at the beginning of the competition will come first to the end.
A special moment is the fans themselves: they come from all over the world to support their teams and their favorite athletes, all pumped up, tanned, in their box t-shirts.
At the exhibition site, every tent, then some kind of projectile and test: a bandana for a burpee, a poster for double jumps, testing bikes, horizontal bars, rings with blocks, weights … While walking around the expo and trying everything, I did a good job. In three days at the games, I met a lot of interesting people and even came face to face with my favorite athlete-businessman Jason Khalipa.
Business
America is known for its entrepreneurial tradition. As you would expect, a bunch of big and small businesses have sprung up around CrossFit. Walking through the expo, I came across both an advertisement for trainings for the hall owners, inviting them to double the number of visitors, and special fingertips that protect the inner side of the thumb during a snatch, at $ 5 apiece.
After I posted a video with girls running in heavy vests, I found out in the comments a lot of interesting opinions about the beauty of athletes. It seems to me that this is a good indicator of how CrossFit changes not even the standards of beauty, but its very understanding.
Yes, professional boxers (as they sometimes jokingly call themselves) do not look like decorative fitness heroines. They are not self-tanned, do not extend hair, do not stick in breasts, and do not tighten the skin on the face. This is not their beauty - the main thing is that they match the way they look and their inner sense of being an athlete ready for any challenge. When you see how the barbells fly over their heads, how they do dozens of pull-ups in a row, how they jump over barriers, you freeze from beauty. And for me personally, such beauty is closer than the poses of fit babies.
Girls who don't dream of becoming pro CrossFit don't have to worry about pumping them over. What exactly will happen - they will learn what they did not know before, and rethink the understanding of physical beauty and harmony. This also applies to guys, if that.:)
Influence on fashion and style
Now CrossFit has become a culture in the Westin the broadest sense of the word. It is a powerful program of physical and psychological training, a generator of successful businesses, spectacular games and the opportunity to train people in any shape and of any age, the principles of healthy eating and a source of fashion trends.
In Russia and the countries of the former CIS, crossfit is only gaining momentum, and if you are looking for something new, useful (although sometimes dangerous and extreme), then find the nearest crossfit box and a good trainer. It is possible that in 5-10 years our athlete will appear at the CrossFit Games in California.
